    3. Marianne - There isn't any record for a Marie or Mary Mueller, but there is: Louisa Mueller Heise confirmed 1893, living in City of Columbia original record: Louisa K. Müller, born 24 Feb 1880, no parents listed If you have more information, I could look further in my records. It seems that Mitweider could easily be an alternate of Mittwede (spelling was variable, depending on who was writing down the information). Pauline Mitweide confirmed 1863, no address I hope this is helpful. Peggy >I am interested in Marie Louise MUELLER. Also, I noticed a MITWEIDE and am >wondering if it could be a variant spelling of my MITTWEDE. > >Marianne

    1. [ILMONROE-L] Re: [ILSTCLAI-L] St. Paul's Confirmands Directory 1855-1938
    2. Peggy Kolm
    3. Dear Carolyn, St. Paul's only began in 1855. You might try looking in the records of Zion Evangelical (now UCC) of Millstadt, St. Clair County. Those records contain the marriage of my ggggrandparents who were married in 1853. Those records note that the marriage occured in Monroe County, so perhaps Zion was the "church of record". You might also need to find the records of other German churches in Monroe County - the earliest Ries (not Reis) at St. Paul's Columbia was: Thomas Ries confirmed in 1912, living in St. Louis,MO in 1938 Charles Ries confirmed in 1914, living in the city of Columbia in 1938 Edwin Ries confirmed in 1918, living in the city of Columbia in 1938 Sorry I can't be of more help. Peggy >Peggy, > >Do you have any church records that are before 1855? > >George Reis/Rice was suppose to have been born in Monroe County in 1844. >I can't locate that family on a census. I have not been able to learn the >name of his father. He was suppose to have a sister named Elizabeth that >was born around 1835. Elizabeth married an Abijah Hines and moved to >Posey County, Ind. > >Thanks, >Carolyn Sue Smith >[email protected] >

    1. [ILMONROE-L] St. Paul's Confirmands Directory 1855-1938
    2. Peggy Kolm
    3. Hello all, I apologize for the length of this post; I hope it's as useful to you all out their as the information I've received from this and other lists. I have a copy of the Confirmands Directory of St. Paul's Evangelical Church (later St. Paul's UCC) of Columbia, Monroe County, Illinois. It lists all the confirmands between 1855 and 1938 (about 2000 names). All the surnames are listed below. I have additional information from St. Paul's original records for some names. If you are interested in a common surname, please be sure to give me a first name and approximate date as well. I have made duplicate a post to the St. Clair County list because many of the confirmands were either born or later lived in St. Clair County. I have also posted this to the Hessen list, because many of the original church members emigrated from the Hesse-Darmstadt and Rheinhessen regions of Germany. 2. John M Coffman
    3. Dear Geneology Friends - This msg is intended mostly for Peggy Kolm, Ed Rogers, Janet Flynn & Pat Vaseska but will post here instead of sending seperate msgs - someone else may be interested too. In searching my wife's GELLNER-KOTTWITZ Monroe Co history, I have found info that may be helpful to all of us - maybe we're long lost cousins! They were a farm family, German, Evangelical & lived in Monroe Co, Moredock Pct, from at least 1870 (first found on census) until at least Mar 1887 when last know child was baptised at Zoar church, New Hanover. None were found on 1900 census. Association of these surnames has to be more than coincidence! Here's what I have so far - would sure love to have some more info: My wife's g.aunt Mariah GELLNER b. abt 1875, Monroe Co, parents Henry GELLNER & Wilhelmine KOTTWITZ, married Louis?? LUDWIG abt 1894-95 (place unk), dau Marie b. 20 Feb 1896 St. Louis, d. 14 Oct 1989, married John LAUX, one son Norman, a pilot killed WWII. Mariah's bro Julius b. 17 Oct 1878, baptised George August GELLNER, Zoar Evang Church, New Hanover, witnessed by George NAUMANN, August & Theresa SPIES. Don't know if they were related, but at least neighbors & good friends. Went by name August - deaf mute - never married - died St. Louis, date unknown. Census 1900 Monroe Co, Moredock Pct, Dwelling #58: LUDWIG, Charles, age 44 b. Oct 1855, Illinois, farmer, parents both born Germany Veretta, wife, age 37 b. Mar 1863, Illinois, parents both born Illinois, married 22 yrs, 7 children, 5 living, all born Illinois William, son, 17 b. Mar 1882, single, farm labor Mary, dau, 15 b. Sep 1884, single Frohny, dau, 13 b. Oct 1886, single, at school George, son, 4 b. Sep 1895 Lillian, dau, 2 b. Jun 1898 Sorry this is so long and confusing, but hope it helps somebody. I continue to seek information relating to my great grandfather, Thomas Davis, Columbia resident late 1840's and early 1850's, dying there in 1854, leaving widow, Mary Davis, nee Duvall, and son James Bissell Davis. Also looking for information re Washington and Ann Duvall, same period; and William and Mary Stone, nee Duvall (widow of Davis), married shortly before 1860. Tom Davis

    2. Pat: MCGS is planning some interesting programs for 1999. Two will be for beginning genealogists, one of which is limited to young teens, the other for adults. Shirley Bull, MCGS member and librarian at Mormon Library, will give a program on German Research. This will probably be at our regular May meeting. Ann Carter Fleming, MCGS member and professional genealogist, will present an all-day program on a Saturday in October. I've asked her to give us suggestions about solving seemingly unsolvable genie projects and to address the program to intermediate genealogists. We are also planning a trip to the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, IN in April. As you probably know, Allen Co. houses the wonderful and indispensible PERSI holdings. I will send you a copy of the 1st Quarterly for 1999 when I receive your address. This has more details on all of the above, plus other MCGS projects. Welcome to MCGS and I hope to meet you soon. If you have any questions, please let me know. Janet

    3. Hi Gerry, No, you are not all alone on this list but I was wondering the same thing. LOL I am searching for George Seibert (Sibert) b-abt 1800 Germany, m Elizabeth b-1794 Germ. Son Philip Siebert b-1836 PA, m1 Mary Opliger and m2 Catharine Hartmann b-1839 Nassau. Both marriages took place in Monroe Co., IL. My great grandmother was daughter of Philip. Margret,(Margaretha) Seibert was married to Henry Seibert. She was in St. Louis, Mo. prior to 1892 and widowed sometime between Sept. 1899 and May, 1900. If any of this sounds familiar please let me know. Thank you and would love to share what info I have. 2. You're not alone. I just joined the list a couple of weeksa ago. I'm afraid I don't have anything to help you. I was raised in St. Louis and had a close friend, Robert Weirsscheim, whose grandparents lived across the river, in Illinois. Thats about all the info I have. My own family came through Prairie du Rocher, Ill. then moved over to Missouri about 1820. I am researching Wittmer, Villemere, Millmaire and Villmer. Sorry I can't help.....just didn't want you to think you were all alone.
