According to 1870/80 census records, she was born in Prussia abt 1817, was a widow & lived with son Henry on a farm near New Hanover. I did not find her (or any of the other family members in 1900 census). 3. I think anyone living in the town of Waterloo in 1840 would have had to be in that church, if it was built by then. (Was it?) My husband's side of the family lived in Waterloo, as well as in a few of the surrounding communities just near there, in fact, his grandfather was caretaker of St. P. & P church for many years. I think you'd have to say your folks were members of St. P/P if they lived in Waterloo at all. It's a tiny town...have you ever been there? There is only 1 parish, I'm sure. 1. [ILMONROE-L] Peter Schmitt
    2. Does anyone have any information on Peter Jacob Schmitt (Schmidt)'s first wife and their family. I know he married Elizabeth Rapp in 1865, but I understand she was his second wife. He was naturalized in 1862 and his naturalization papers indicate he had been in the U.S. and specifically in Illinois for nine years and was born in the Duchy of Nassau, Germany. So he emigrated from Germany sometime before 1853. I don't know if he married his first wife in Germany or in Illinois. Any info would be appreciated. My e-mail is [email protected]

    3. Thanks to Jean <[email protected]> for the address of Ss. Peter & Paul Church, Waterloo, IL; and for the Global Yellow Pages URL. Could someone please tell me what part of Monroe County is recorded on page 355 of the 1840 Federal Census for Monroe County, Illinois. Would Catholics recorded on this page most likely belong to Ss. Peter & Paul Parish, Waterloo, in 1840? A "Henry LONG" family is listed on page 355, and I would like to know where they lived and what Catholic parish they might have belonged to. This family may be the Heinrich LANG family I am trying to trace. Daniel Daniel J. 2. Daniel, Don't know if you ever received any responses to your query. I haven't seen any activity on the mailing list. I've been searching for a listing of Catholic churches in Waterloo and finally found a good source on the internet - Global Yellow Pages. If you're interested, you can find it at http/www.globalyp.com/world.htm. To go directly to the U.S., it's http/www/globalyp.com/world.htm#US. If you don't have access to the internet, let me know and I'll look it up for you. Incidently the only Catholic church listed for Waterloo, IL was St. Peter & Paul, 204 West Mill St., Waterloo, IL 62298. (You indicated you were interested in Monroe County, so I don't know what other cities you'd be checking.) Hope this helps. My e-mail is [email protected] Jean Sedro-Woolley, WA

    3. I have been told that a "Henry LONG" family is listed on page 355 in the 1840 Monroe County, Illinois, Federal Census. > Awhile back I wrote the LMONROE-L asking for info on this "Henry LONG" > family. Specifically, I was hoping to learn where in Monroe County this > family lived, and to what Catholic parish they may have belonged. > This may be the Heinrich LANG family I have been searching for since 1990. They moved from Illinois to Sherrill, Dubuque County, Iowa, in about 1845 with three children "born in Illinois" (according to the 1856 State of Iowa Census). Perhaps someone can suggest Monroe County civil or church records that may contain info about this "Henry LONG" family. > Daniel > > Daniel J. 1. [ILMONROE-L] Schmitt Family
    2. Does anyone know if there is a St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in or around Waterloo? And if so, it's address. My grandfather Jacob Schmitt married Lena Micka at St. Vincent's. We always assumed it was in St. Louis, where my grandmother lived. However, the St. Vincent's there has no record of their marriage in 1899. Thought I'd see if maybe they were married in Waterloo, Jacob's birthplace. My e-mail is [email protected] Thanks Jean Sedro-Woolley, WA
