Dear List members, Is anyone researching the WIERSCHEM family from Columbia, Il? Mine are from Madonnaville and Waterloo, but I suspect there would be a connection there. Other names are MEIER (Meyer) from Harrisonville, SHIELDS from Burksville, GANNON, who apparently moved elsewhere from this area, and HAGENE from Waterloo. Also, a bit of helpful advice...Are you all aware of the Online source of Illinois Death Records? You email them 2 names with date of death and they will MAIL you FREE the copy of the record. It must be AFTER 1919, but it is very helpful. The address is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/dcert.htm I found out my ancestor's mother's maiden name and birthplace this way. Unfortunately, one other record just said unknown for those two answers, so it's only as accurate as the informant, but it's worth a shot. Can someone possibly do a lookup in the Monroe County death record book on the deaths of Mary MEIER nee Hagene born @1839 died between 1881 and 1899 Mary Margaret SHIELDS nee Gannon born @1835 Ireland, died between 1881-1899 Martin GANNON born @1820 Ireland, died between 1872-1880. Thanks!! ________________________________________ Gerry Meier [email protected] http://home.postnet.com/~gmeie/ ________________________________________

I found this death record: 278 4 mar 1879, Huber, Rebecca, 83y 7m 2d, died 3 jan 1879 1 AM, Widow, German Hesse Darmstadt, died Round Prairie, no cause, 5 days buried Round Prairie Graveyard, Dr. John Landholt, Red Bud I suspect that she is the mother of Elizabeth Huber. Elizabeth was born 1837 and various records indicate that she immigrated from Hesse Darmstad in 1840. She married Phillip Wagner at Waterloo in 1858. Can anyone help? I'm stuck until I can make a road trip to IL. John --- John Crossley Sacramento, California, USA [email protected] http://www.jps.net/crossley Ask me about my Joke-a-Day email list!
Hello - The microfilm number for the 1878-1915 Monroe County death records was posted recently. Before ordering the film, however, I wonder if any reader has a transcribed copy, and would be willing to check for a couple of names. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Tom Davis Oceanside, CA
Tom: Check w/ VP Pat Vaseska. She just spent days inputting 100+ years worth of Monroe Co. death records. This will be a new publication in the next MCGS Quarterly. Her e-mail is [email protected] Janet
Hello all, I have tried to post a query on the Monr. Co. home page two times in the last several weeks and I get no reply. Does anyone know what is wrong? Sharon

None before 1850.
In a message dated 99-03-09 13:44:08 EST, you write: << >> Have you checked Randolph Co. records? Red Bud is in Randolph Co. People from Tipton and south areas of Monroe Co. have a Red Bud address even though they're from Monroe. It's confusing!

Thanks for the list. I forgot to mention the time frame. Mr. Don't-Know-His-Name HUBER arrived in IL about 1840. My best guess at this point is Valentine & Rebecca HUBER. Valentine purchased 80 acres of land in Monroe and St. Clair Counties near Waterloo on 12/11/1837. Rebecca died 3 Jan 1879 at Red Bud. Hey, at least they were old enough! :-) >From: [email protected] >Lots of WAGNERs, but no Phillip. No Elizabeth HUBER, but see previous >message >for all HUBERs. Phillip was born in IL or maybe OH. I'm looking for his father, Mr. Don't-Know-His-Name WAGNER. My best guess is John Adam WAGNER. He purchased 40 acres near Waterloo, Twp 2S 9W section 9, 04/13/1835. He also appears in the 1860 census. I wish he was in the 1850 census, as Phillip (b. 1835) would probably still be home. :-) Perhaps some personal sleuthing is necessary. I think I'll have to visit scenic Monroe County this spring. Can anyone suggest an economical place to stay? Hi, I am searching for a Lena ? b-1884 married George S. Seibert. Both are buried at St. John's Cemetery in Fults, Ill. Any possible connection to your Schmitts? Thanks. I know Peter Schmitt was naturalized in Waterloo in 1862 and married Elizabeth Rapp in 1865. I have since learned that Peter was previously married and had four children. Name of first wife unknown. The children were Lena, William, John and Frederick SCHMITT. It's possible some or all of them were born in Germany and would have also been naturalized in Waterloo. Are there any other SCHMITTs in the Naturalization Index. (I checked with the County Clerk for the year 1862 and that was negative.) Thanks for any info. Jean Sedro-Woolley
Lots of WAGNERs, but no Phillip. No Elizabeth HUBER, but see previous message for all HUBERs.
HUBERs in Naturalization Index of Monroe Co. (write to courthouse for copies): Book 2, John HUBER, p. 14, 3/24/1917, Zell, Backnang, Wuertenberg, Germany Book 4, Anna Huber, p. 38, 12/18/1922, Alec, Hungary Book 4, Joseph HUBER, p. 17, 3/2/1917, Sarmikolousul Make, Romania
John, I don't know about an Index, but I have obtained copies of naturalization papers from the Monroe County Courthouse. You might want to call the Clerk of the Circuit Court at 618-939-8681, ext. 223. He can tell you what's available and how to get it. Jean Sedro-Woolley, WA
