Good Morning Dwight! I do have some good stuff to share with you about Samuel Scott. Read on. Your subject, Samuel Scott, was born in Fountain County, Indiana on November 21, 1829. His parents were Hugh S. and Sarah (Lion) Scott. He was a clerk in early life and spent two years in the state auditor's office at Indianapolis. In 1855 he came to Mercer County and engaged in farming. On October 1, 1857, he was united in marriage with Miss Sarah E. , daughter of John Mch. and Margaret (Cramer) Wilson, a native of Michigan who came to Mercer County when about six month old. She was born August 26, 1836. Their children were: Guy C., Edgar S., Carrie W., John McH., and Hugh M. They were farmers in Keithsburg Township. Samuel's Parents Hugh Smith Scott was born in Washington County, Virginia on July 20, 1807 and was the son of Samuel and Jane (Hutton) Scott. On September 18, 1828, he was married to Sarah, daughter of James and Jane (Clark) Lion, a native of the same county. Soon after marriage, they migrated to Indiana and settled in Fountain County, remaining there until 1856 when they moved to Mercer County, Ilinois. Their children were: Samuel (our subject), Jane, Lilburn S., Angeline T., Julia C., Howard and Florilla and a daughter, Susan who was deceased by 1882. He would have been an elderly man born in VA. I am particularly interested in the details regarding Samuel Scott, and especially his parents' places of birth. Samuel is said to have died in Keithsburg in 1896. Thank you very much, Dwight Scott
