I will just mention that I've been researching the Emersons, who lived around Keithsburg, New Boston, New Windsor, and Millersburg. I think the first ones arrived around 1840-1842, and purchased land, although there was some government land available. My great-grandparents lived just north and a bit east of Keithsburg, across the road from some Doaks who were apparently good friends and neighbors. This can be seen in the 1875 County Atlas. My grandmother was a preemie, and family legend is that a Doak who was assisting in the birth saved her (1870). I've not researched any Doaks.
