He served in the 27th IL Inf. during the Civil War. He served with my gg grandfather and I have found a poem in the family bible written by my gg grandfather but attributed to George W. Cross. The poem concerns the Battle of Belmont, Missouri, one of the first fights this group was involved in during the Civil War.
