Daniel Halstead and Jefferson Fuller are listed as laborers and probably worked for the William Harrison Riggs family as the History of Mercer County seems to indicate he had a very large farm. It also says Riggs and his wife took in orphans. Lucy was not an orphan (in 1860 anyway) since her parents Amos (not Anson) and Sally Fuller were her parents. However Amos seems to have died before 1870 and I am wondering if the family was having trouble surviving and neighbors were helping out with the children. That seems to have been done in those days when there was no other form of welfare and the alternative was the poor farm.
