You can write to the Historical Society - someone goes in and checks the mail even during the winter. It's possible that you can arrange for someone to meet you there or do a lookup for a small hourly fee. Since you have data from tombstones, you could also write or call the County Clerk's office in Aledo and ask for documentation. Iris There is no library in Millersburg. The library in Aledo would be open on Saturdays, but the best source for genealogy would be the Mercer County Historical Society and they are closed between October and April. But, look here! The Oak Ridge Cemetery is just on the NW corner of Millersburg, IL and is usually open. There was some extensive damage to stones a couple of years ago, but I think it is open most of the time at least during daylight hours. It's "Americanized" German. Please go over to genforum.com and "Jump" to the Lichlyter family forum. If you read the reply to Jeffrey Lichlyter that I posted in March of last year you might learn something you didn't know. Lechleiders and Lechleiters are still in Germany today. Lechleiter seems to be the most common spelling as far as I can determine. I've done past searches of the telephone directories (Das telefonbuch) over the internet. The last time I ran into an Arlan Lickliter was in 1972 in Nora on the north side of Indianapolis. Arlan was my driver's ed. instructor. He was a basketball coach and math teacher at North Central High School and the father to Mark and Todd Lickliter. Todd was in a few of my classes in junior high. There were several Lickliters in the Indianapolis area when I was younger. I'm sure your closely related. Hope the information you read at genforum.com helps. Also, when your posting future querries about your family you really should try posting them in the Lickliter family message board. I ran across your posting by accident when I did a general search.--Neal

Alfred Lilliman owned a store where my ggf (Frank Larson) was employed. He also had a coalmine in town and helped establish the local Swedish Baptist Church in about 1891. He held the mortgages to some houses in Cable and the story was told that when people got behind on their payments, he would haul away their home with a steam engine. The 1900 census lists Alfred (b 1862) and his wife Mary (b 1862) with a son Henry (b 1891). I heard that Henry was nicknamed "Pooka" and was considered quite a wild kid. The Cable cemetery has gravestones for several Lillimans: Charles J. (1877-1960) and his son John, Lila B. (1892-1952) and Selma C. (1879-1952). I heard there are also stones for Gus, Jo and Pat Lilliman but I don't have dates for them. I'd love to hear more about what you know about Cable and the people there. I have a picture that I'd like to send you. It has the inscription "Mr. Hagman" on the back and I'd like to know if the pictured person is Oscar Hagman, if you know what he looked like. Please send me a note when you get a minute.
