Hello Listers, I have spent quite a few hours viewing each image for the 1860 Mclean County census which are all in a bunch, 748 of them. I made a list of the Townships(and no, Pam, I haven't found Lewis Woodward yet!) as I went, so if this will help anyone here it is: Mt. Although the author is unknown, this definitely rang true for me. Anyone else? John Wolfe computerwolf@yahoo.com Corinth, Texas =========================================================================== To those of us who have children in our lives, whether they are our own, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or students, here is something to make you chuckle. Whenever your children are out of control, you can take comfort from the thought that even God's omnipotence did not extend to His own children. After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve. And the first thing he said was "DON'T!" "Don't what?" Adam replied. "Don't eat the forbidden fruit." God said. "Forbidden fruit? We have forbidden fruit? Hey Eve...we have forbidden fruit!" "No Way!" "Yes, way!" "Do NOT eat the fruit!" said God. "Why" "Because I am your Father and I said so!" God replied, wondering why He hadn't stopped creation after making the elephants. A few minutes later, God saw His children having an apple break and He was ticked! "Didn't I tell you not to eat the fruit?" God asked. "Uh huh," Adam replied. "Then why did you?" said the Father. "I don't know," said Eve. "She started it!" Adam said "Did not!" "Did too!" "DID NOT!" Having had it with the two of them, God's punishment was that Adam and Eve should have children of their own. Thus the pattern was set and it has never changed. BUT THERE IS REASSURANCE IN THE STORY! If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give children wisdom and they haven't taken it, don't be hard on yourself. If God had trouble raising children, what makes you think it would be a piece of cake for you? THINGS TO THINK ABOUT! 1. You spend the first two years of their life teaching them to walk and talk. Then you spend the next sixteen telling them to sit down and shut up. 2. Grandchildren are God's reward for not killing your own children. 3. Mothers of teens now know why some animals eat their young. 4. Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you should not have said. 5. The main purpose of holding children's parties is to remind yourself that there are children more awful than your own. ADVICE FOR THE DAY: Be nice to your kids -- they will choose your nursing home. AND FINALLY: IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF TENSION AND YOU GET A HEADACHE, TAKE THE ADVICE ON THE ASPIRIN BOTTLE: "TAKE TWO ASPIRIN" AND "KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN" (You've gotta admit there's some wisdom here.) __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Prairie Chapel Cemetery is Now Anchor Township Cemetery. Does anyone on the list have this cemetery book? I need a lookup for FRANK DART and RACHEL DART. Kathy Many many thanks to Pam Haithcock for the following information: On page 56 of the "History of Lawndale, Martin, and Anchor Townships and the Villages of Colfax and Anchor" they have this article on Prairie Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church Prairie Chapel Church was built in 1874 by a group that had been meeting in a schoohouse. Major J.B.T. Mann gave four acres from the southwest corner of his farm for a church and cemetery. A frame building, 30 feet by 40 feet, was erected at a cost of $1300. Messrs. G.D. Butler, Alex Shannon, J.C. Swatsley, Z.C. Worley and H.A. Thompson were selected to look after the work. It belonged to the Fairbuy circuit. Reb. A.W. Green of Potosi, preached there once a month. Later it was part of a charge with Colfax and Bethel Methodist. In June 1890, the church was moved into the village of Anchor and it became the Anchor Methodist Church. After the church was moved, the cemetery became neglected. In 1903, three members of the Anchor church, J.W. Labertew, N.H. Watson and John Martensen were appointed to look after the cemetery and make arrangements for its care. J.W. Labertew made a map of the cemetery and entered the names of the owners of many of the lots. There had been burials there for 30 years, so there are indications the map was not complete. No record of burials had been kept. A little record book listed some information, and these two records have been valuable through the years. It was decided in 1903 that the lots should be sold for $10 each. During the following years, the cemetery was again uncared for. In 1936, after a vote approving the proposition, the land was deeded to Anchor Township and it became the Anchor Township Cemetery. Trustees are elected, and a small levy provides funds for the maintenance of the former Prairie Chapel Cemetery. Many of the burials here were members of families who left the Anchor area many years ago. Once recognizes names on the stones, of settlers listed on early records.
I am planning a trip to McLean County in May and I want to bring my camera and take some pictures of the landscape. I had DART ancestors who were buried in 1890's in the Prairie Chapel Cemetery which I believe is in Anchor Township. Does anyone on the list know exactly where it might be. In about 1865 the DART ancestors were in section 29 of Anchor Township. Does anyone have a township map with the section numbers on it?? The DAR Post Office in Anchor Township was open from Dec 1876, to June 14, 1880 and was named for the DART family. On the 1870 , 1880 census the DART family is in Cropsey Township. Their farm must have been on the township lines or township lines were shifted. I would really appreciate any directions that people can give me in finding the general local of these places. ThankYou all for your help. Kathy
The mausoleum at the Brookside Cemetery in Mazon will be demolished in June due to deterioration and lack of funds to restore/rebuild it. The Morris Daily Herald is seeking assistance in finding descendants of those interred since there are no known descendants in this area. Barnes, Cash, Clements, Clithero, Coleman, Davis, Foster, Hadden, Hume, Laase, Thomas If you recognize any of these surnames, please check the Morris Daily Herald (http://www.morrisdailyherald.com <http://www.morrisdailyherald.com/> ) and read the three related articles, including a detailed list of the 22 individuals interred in the mausoleum. Among those interred are two Civil War veterans, two Civil War widows, and the wife (Hannah) of William Cash, who died in the Andersonville prison camp in 1864. There may be descendants in IL who are unaware their ancestors are buried in this crypt. Please distribute the above link to your lists. Many thanks for your assistance!! Hi List, Does anyone have cemetery information? I'm interested in tombstone information for Nathan Brittin and associated wives buried next to him at Oak Grove Cemetery, Leroy, IL. Thanks! I appreciate any help. Donna Jaster
Names I am searching are Martin Wiley and his wife Nancy. They are in McLean County until after 1880 (on census). They had daugther Catherine who married James D. Schell and another daughter Mary who married John Evans. Also son Zachariah who married Sarah Hensley in 1872 in McLean County. Sarah married a Thoma Wey in the 1890's so I am assuming Zachariah died but I have not been able to find a death record. I also have not been able to find anything about the daughters Catherine or Mary after their marriages in 1863 and 1862 respectively. Martin Wiley, the father, came to Idaho where he died in 1895. The mother Nancy died in 1887. I have a small newsclipping of her death which says she died at the "St. Charles Hotel run by her daughter (Lydia) in this town." I don't know which town this means. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Carolyn

Just joined this list to see if I can find more info on my Burnett line. I recently found John Burnett family listed on the 1870 census living in Yates Twp. - P.O.: Weston. I had been given a DOD on John as July 10, 1870, which this disputes as the census was taken on July 18th. His wife, Caroline is found with a son, Daniel in Johnson Co. KS on the 1880 census as a widow. So I think John might have died and is buried in a cemetery in McLean Co. Can anyone help me with a lookup? John's brother, Clark is found on the 1880 census living in Bloomington, McLean Co. and died on October 18, 1891 there. Thanks! Linda Garrett CA

Have found several McReynolds on this census, including one Mclean Reynolds. Shari
I came across this while I was doing some research and thought it might help someone researching this area. Stout's Grove Cemetery was originally named Mickens Cemetery.
I have a Biographical Sketch on an Ezekial Arrowsmith that just happened to be on the same page that I copied on my own line. Thought I would send it out to the person looking for info on The Arrowsmith Name. Ezekiel Arrowsmith: farmer, Sec 30; P. O. Arrowsmith; owns 240 acres of fine farming land, worth $40 per acre. The subject of this sketch was born in Ross Co., Ohio, Oct. 31, 1811: Lived with his father on the farm, engaged in farming, until 29 years of age; went to Indiana, stayed one summer and returned to Ohio. He was married to Hannah M. Harrison Feb 18, 1835, who was born in Bucks Co., Penn., Dec. 18, 1818 and died Feb 14, 1840; the result of the marriage was four children - Mary C. (now wife of Samuel T. Bane), Elizabeth E., Samuel D and Matilda; the former is the only one living. Mr. Arrowsmith was then married to Mary A. Simpson Sept. 26, 1841; she was born in Ross Co., Ohio Dec 23, 1814; the fruit of this marriage was seven children-- Sarepta, James A., Eliza J., ; deceased -- Martha, Melissa, Asa And Armelia. Mr Arrowsmith has held the office of County Commissioner three years, Justice of the Peace four years, Supervisor of Township four years, and School Director Twenty Years. He was among the first settlers in this township. The township, post office and town of Arrowsmith were all named after him his being the first vote ever cast in the township. Mr Arrowsmith is one of the most benevolent men in this county; he is regarded as a public benefactor in this township, where he still resides. Hope this helps someone. Leslie Maurice :)
I believe that I saw some Arrowsmith's in some tombstone pictures at the DeWitt Co site. I can't swear to that! I know there are a lot of Arrowsmith's in KY, around Green and Hart Counties. Shari
