Just wanted everyone to know that Ancestry.com has obits from Bloomington, IL Pantagraph, from 1991-2000. Didn't think I'd find anything, but here was my grandfather's sister's daughter, 94 years old, still living in the same town where my father was born over 100 years ago! And survivors listed in full, so will be able to contact a member of this family that I thought was "lost." These obits are free until June 15. Nancy Yeakel Bender

Another YEAKEL was Ann Yeakel who married William C. MILLER in Rockingham County, VA. in 1834. William C. Miller was the son of Alexander MILLER and Sarah CRAWFORD of VA. The MILLER family settled in Danvers Township, McLean County, about 1850. Their children were Levi, b 1824, Samuel b 1826, James W, b 1827, John, b 1829, Susan Jane b 1830, married John MICKENS, Margaret b 1834, married George W. WHISLER, Peyton b 1835, married Eliza HODGE, and Mary b 1836, married James MICKENS. James Miller who came to this area in 1835, was an older brother of William C MILLER. Would love to have more information on this family...I see in the Rockingham Co., newsletter, a book is available on "Descendants of Rev. Alexander Miller, Pioneer of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia." Does anyone know if this book includes the families that came to McLean Co. about 1854? Thanks. Nancy Yeakel Bender [email protected]
Anyone who might know this family, J. MC CRUM who farmed in McLean County, Mount Hope Township from prior to 1870 and who is still on the 1895 map, I'd be interested in learning more. His wife was Mary Larissa SIPE, who was the daughter of David K SIPE and Susan Jane YEAKEL. They were married in 1882 in McLean County. Also on the 1895 Mount Hope Map was S MC CRUM. The McCrum's and Yeakel's came from Rockingham County, VA about 1854. In 1903 S McCRUM went to Fort Scott, KS with his family. Susan Jane YEAKEL's sister was Ann YEAKEL, who married Daniel GARDNER. My data on Emanual Merrifield is in conflict. Was he married to Mary Tucker or Polly Haines (sister of Hannah Haines Merrifield)? I have read the will (microfilm) of Henry Haines, Hannah's father in which he listed all his daughters and none has a name even close to Polly; or, a name for which Polly could be a nickname. Data re: Emanuel's children are in conflict: Samuel b. 1832-1834; m. Sept. 9, 1829 Jemina Taylor in Greene Co., OH; Abner b. 1800-1034; m. June 4, 1828 Matilda (Martha) McConnel in Greene Co., OH. Wm. b 1810-1820 Mary b 1825 Elizabeth b. abt 1800 Rebecca b abt 1825 Lucinda b abt 1825 Can someone set me straight as to dates and the appropriate sources? Many, many thanks, Margaret Merrifield Self [email protected]

Hello, McLean Co IL Researchers! I need some advice from people who are much better acquainted than I am with how things work in McLean Co IL officialdom. My great-grandparents, Ernst Julius Guenther and wife Anna Rosalie Ullrich, bought a house at 305 Mason Street in Normal, McLean Co IL in 1921 and sold it in 1935. I'd like to have a copy of the deed in which they bought this house and a copy of the deed in which they sold this house. But the LDS Church appears not to have microfilmed any of this county's deed books or index to grantors or index to grantees, if such indexes exist. Do grantors' and grantees' indexes exist for McLean Co IL? I infer that they might not exist, because when I telephoned the Register of Deeds office, I was told that to locate these deeds would involve a "search" and I'd need to hire a professional to do this "search". If they do have grantors' and grantees' indexes, this "search" would take about one minute per deed, so surely they wouldn't have suggested that I hire a genealogist, would they? These are my only ancestors who ever lived in this county, so I am not very familiar with how you do things. In other counties where my ancestors did live, I'd just order the grantors' and grantees' indexes from my local LDS Family History Centre and locate the names, and then order the microfilm of the relevant deed book and take the copy myself on their microfilm reader printer. Here in England, we have to wait about four months for the microfilms to get here, but once they arrive, the "search" takes less than five minutes' time. So, my usual modus operandi won't work for McLean Co IL. I can't afford to fly from England to Illinois just to visit this Register of Deeds office to do this myself, so if I have to hire a genealogist to do this task, about how much time do you think it would take to locate the deed book number and page when the full names and years are known, and how much would I expect to have to pay? Thank you for any advice! Hopefully, Lin Van Buren Saint Leonard's on Sea, England
would someone know where to e-mail or write too to get infro for someone buried in Heyworth Cemetery. Jack Neeley
Carolyn, I have so little on the Paul family that I almost hate to respond, but maybe it will help a little. John C. Henline b 12 Jun 1827 married Matilda Jane Paul (b. Lexington, McLean Co., IL d. Abt. 1856, Lexington, McLean Co., IL) on 19 May 1849 in McLean Co., IL. They had 4 children; Anderson, Emma, Maggie, Sabra. Their daughter Maggie (b. abt 1854) married George W Hayes (b. 05 Oct 1857, Lexington) son of William Harvey Hays and Lucinda Paul. I also have Margaret Ann Wood b. Abt. 1842 (possibly Fayette Co., Ohio) married John Jackson Paul on 27 Jan 1860 in McLean Co., IL. I'm sorry. That is all I have. Hello, I'm new to the list. I know that the PAUL family lived in McLean County for many years before my grandfather, John Henry Paul came to Missouri. I don't know much about the PAULS and would be interested in any information at all that another researcher would be willing to share. Here is what I have: JOHN PAUL was born Bef. 1795, and died in Lexington, IL. He married NANCY JOHNSON 1810 in Cabell City, Greenbrier County, West Virginia, daughter of NIMROD JOHNSON. She was born Bef. 1795. Children of JOHN PAUL and NANCY JOHNSON are: PERNINA PAUL, b. Aft. 1810. ROBERT PAUL, b. Aft. 1810. THOMAS PAUL, b. Aft. 1810. JAMES HUGH PAUL, b. 15 May 1821, Fayette County, Ohio; d. 19 June 1862, Madison County, IL. m. Nancy Campbell Gilliam - (children include my grandfather John Henry Paul) NIMROD PAUL, b. Bef. 1826; m. SALLY HUGHES, 27 June 1844, Fayette County, Ohio. HENRY PAUL, b. Abt. 1836, Ohio. LOUISA PAUL, b. 07 December 1839, Fayette County, Ohio; d. 30 October 1912, Clinton, ILL. Thank you for your help! LEE-DAVIS....My father was born in Shirley,McLean County,Ill 1927...His parents had moved there from Indiana to work in the corn fields. I was wondering if there is anyone that would know or if there is any information that would have some of the names of the larger farms during the 20's. My Uncle Manley Gene Lee was named after an owner of one of these farms...I can not remember if MANLEY or GENE..The were also in Woodford Count about 1924...El Paso area. They were only in Ill for about 8 years. My grandparents might have been going my the surname of DAVIS..If anyone might know anything on the surname of LEE or DAVIS I would like to hear from you.. So this is like looking for a needle in a corn field... Thank You Deb Cooper Indiana
