Is there anyone on the list who could do a look up for me in the book: "The Good Old Times in McLean County, Illinois" by Dr. E. Duis. I am trying to find out information about Anson S. Dart who was in Anchor Tnwshp in the 1860's. He married Elizabeth Eastley Smith in Bloomington IL in 1863. Thanks so much for any help. Kathy
Barbara, I should have also said that these are the children I have listed for John R. and Hannah Sampson Wiley: (Hope it helps) 1) Margaret Wiley b. 08 Jul 1811 Source: LDS Ancestral File, AFN:18S8-X8M. 2) William Wiley b. 24 Aug 1812 "History of Lawndale, Martin, and Anchor Townships and the Villages of Colfax and Anchor" by Muriel Martens Hoffman. 3) Lytle Royston Wiley b. 07 Nov 1815 Source: "The Good Old Times in McLean County, Illinois" by Dr. E. Duis 4) Elizabeth Sampson Wiley b. 07 Apr 1819 (I have Elizabeth Wiley Henline's Last Will and Testament) The Colfax Leader DECEMBER 7, 1894 - Mrs. Elizabeth Henline died Sunday at her residence two miles west of Colfax, at the age of 74. Mrs. Henline, whose maiden name was Wiley, was born in Kentucky in 1820. Her parents soon afterward moved to Indiana, and in 1835 to Illinois, where they were among the first families to settle along the Mackinaw. She was the last of a family of six among whom were William, Lytle and SW Wiley, all of whom have passed away within the last few years. In 1841 she was married to Henry Henline, who died in 1877. Four children were born to them, three of whom are living: Mrs. J.M. Reynolds, Mrs. Nelson Big and Henry C. Henline, all of Lawndale township. The oldest son was a soldier, and was killed in the great charge on the Mobil forts in 1864. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Dunlevy Tuesday at the Evergreen Methodist church, of whose congregation she was a member. 5) James Royston Wiley b. 21 Nov 1820 6) Thomas Royston Wiley b. 22 Dec 1822 Source: LDS Ancestral File, AFN:18S8-XDG. 7) Eliza Cummings Wiley b. 06 Feb 1825 Source: LDS IGI Index, AFN: 18S8-XKH -- Pamela Haithcock McLean County Illinois Heritage http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~henline Bits and Pieces of McLean County http://members.tripod.com/~GenFamily/index.html
Dear Barbara, I'm afraid I don't know who Hannah's parents were, but I do have some info on the Wiley family. this comes from "History of Lawndale, Martin, and Anchor Townships and the Villages of Colfax and Anchor" by Muriel Martens Hoffman. My information differs from yours a little. William Wiley, was born in Wales about 1745, arrived in either Maryland or North Carolina, married Hannah Sampson and raised a family of 6 children. About 1810, he moved his family to Garrard Co., KY where he remained the rest of his life. In the summer of 1817, John Royston, his youngest child, moved to Switzerland Co., IN. After living 18 years in IN, John Royston Wiley moved to what is now Martin Twp., McLean Co. They entered land on either side of the Mackinaw timber with the father, John R. Wiley farming the south side and the sons, William, Lytle R. and Silas farming the north side. Of the Wiley brothers who came to IL with their father, John R. Wiley, in the fall of 1835, William was the oldest. William married Nancy Hopkins and they were the parents of 8 children: John S. married Missouri Arnold; Robert died in 1864 of measles just 6 months after enlisting in the army; Joseph S. married Melissa Henline; William R, a Methodist minister married Gertrude Arnold; James S. married Harriet Dennis; Amelia married Stephen Smith; and Nancy Elizabeth married Lemuel Fincham. One daughter died in infancy. Lytle Royston was the next oldest. He travelled back to Switzerland Co. in 1843 and chose Sarah Royston Wiley, his cousin and daughter of Thomas Wiley, for his wife. Their children were: Dr. Thomas R. Wiley of Gibson City, IL who married Mattie Reeves; Rhoda, a school teacher who married Alex Gillan; John James who married Sarah Rina Harpole; Hannah, who married Almarion Hutson; William Sampson who died at age 25; Sarah, who married Henry C. Henline; Lytle R. who married Mary Emma Harpole, and Cassandra who married William Hutson. James R. Wiley, the third son of John Royston Wiley, married Sarah Lineback and they had 2 children. Hannah (Ogden) and John R. who was killed at the age of 16, when he fell from a horse. John Royston Wiley, who ventured into Illinois and was the first to settle in what is now Martin Township along with his family, cleared the way and had a responsible contribution to the development of this area. -- Pamela Haithcock McLean County Illinois Heritage http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~henline Bits and Pieces of McLean County http://members.tripod.com/~GenFamily/index.html
I would like information on Hannah Sampson's parents. I have a copy of a marriage bond for Hannah Sampson and John R. Wiley, the son of William and Sarah Royston Wiley, dated 10 Sep 1810 in Garrard County, KY. This bond does not list her parents. The information I have indicates John and Hannah moved to Switzerland County, Indiana about 1816 and then on to McLean County, Illinois in 1835. Hannah and John had 10 children. Known children are William L., Lytle R., James R., Silas W., Malinda, & Hannah. Any information on the Sampsons, Wileys, or Roystons would be appreciated Barbara Rowan May Heavenly Father's spirit bless us in our genealogy research and open unknown doors for us. Does anyone know of this family, Samuel R. STERLING who married Anna STUBBLEFIELD, February 28, 1878, and lived in Mount Hope township, just a little northwest of the town of McLean. According to the map of Mount Hope, they were still there in 1895. Probably everyone has a STUBBLEFIELD in their family tree if they've ever lived in McLean...but am only interested in finding Anna and her family. Thanks. Nancy Yeakel Bender [email protected]
Hi Harve, Would you happen to know anything about Charles Wolfe who married Anna Mae Burns? Anna Mae was born 10 Nov 1859 in Bloomington, IL. Her siblings were all married in McLean County, but I can't find a record of her marriage. Sue
All you McLean Co. IL researchers out there. I have a situation that warrants a story to be written, but I need help. I have at least 12 different family lines (surnames) that went into and , in time, out of McLean Co. on their way to KS and IA. This was from the 1850's to the early 1900's. Here are the names: COLAW, SAVAGE/SAVIDGE, CAIN, WOLF/WOLFE, SWITZER, FLEHARTY, ODER, FISH, SIPE, HEATH, McGINNIS & bURKHOLDER. I will appreciate any comment from those with information on or connections with any of these families . Harve Wolfe
I gained access to the database but it is not as complete as you might think. It looks like it covers late summer 1999 to current. My father's obit was in the January 30, 1999 edition and is not included in the database. Neither were any family names that I know should be there. It is a wonderful thing to have this info available... but just wanted to advise that it may not be all we think it is... especially if someone quits looking after an unsuccessful search. I was able to access this data base with no problem on Saturday morning. I need the date of birth and names of the parents of Pauline "Pansy" RANKIN who was born and brought up in Normal, McLean County, Illinois. She had a brother George and a sister Lottie, as far as I know. Pauline RANKIN married Irving Wilbur SAMPSON before 1924, possibly in McLean County. She moved to El Paso, El Paso County, Texas also before 1924, where her husband was a Southern Pacific railway engineer, and died in El Paso on 4 December 1980. THANK YOU !
