Deborah, I checked the transcription for the 1860 McLean Co. Census today for John G. Pope and wife Sarah. I could not find any Pope's listed in the index--only Poppe, Popejoy, and Popple. Of those, only one family listed had a John. Here is the information on his family: V2 1860 Census Index p. 10 File ZN Bloom, Ward 2 Popple, Samuel age 40 miller birthplace Eng Rachel 38, Eng John 18, miller, Eng Kate 16, Eng Eliza 15, Eng Luther 7, NY Minnie, 5 NY Lisa ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Lee, I was at the library at the historical museum tonight and kept my eyes open for George M. Daniels. I didn't see anything on him, but did see several brief references to a Francis Daniels--could he be one of yours? I checked and found that there were a number of Ancestral Charts that had individuals with the Daniels surname. If you would be interested in seeing those, I can copy them for you the next time I go, but I'm not sure exactly when I will be able to get back. Hi Jaime, I found a few things tonight that seem likely to refer to your William Hampton. From the History of McLean Co. 1879 "Michael Dickerson came to Randoph Grove in 1825, and took up a claim on Section 28. He built a mill on the Little Kickapoo, above the junction of the two streams. There was water enough to run it about half the year. He sold to William Hampton, who was of the Wade Hampton connection, who, about twelve years later, sold to Bishop, and went to the Ozark Mountains, in Missouri. This was the first mill ever built in this twonship. There was no bolt in the mill; people who patronized the mill had to "sarch" the flour as it was termed. In entering the land, this property came into the possession of Mr. Baldwin." The next paragraph mentions John Baldwin and Siebern--probably your Seaborn Baldwin also. Then there was an excerpt form deed record in another document: grantee BALDWIN, William Deed from William (X) Hampton and Melinda (X) Hampton it lists the witnesses dates made and recorded 13 Oct. 18345 - 23 Dec. 1834 There is also a bio. of Elias Wall that mentions this same mill operator, Mr. Hampton. It states that he was a very determined man, and his neighbors stood in fear of him. It then goes on to describe in detail how he and one of his God-fearing neighbors disagreed about his hunting and operating the mill on the Sabbath. Hmmmm-looks like you have a rebel in the family! I'll get this in the mail to you. Lisa ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

I haven't posted to the list in a while but now I am back to researching my NICKERSON line and would like to know if someone on the list has access to an index of death records or if someone is on their way to the McLean County Clerk's Office. I would like to send for the death certificate of Albert NICKERSON, died November 1, 1886 in Heyworth, Illinois and it would help to know if there is a death certificate. Thanks. Rhonda
My ggg-grandmother, Isabel Mitchell, is listed as head-of-household in Padua Township, McLean County. Listed with her is my gg-grandfather Samuel Mitchell and Ann Mitchell. Current maps of McLean County do not show a Padua Township. A small village of Padua is located in the northern Dawson Township. I assume Padua Township must have been absorbed by another township or townships. Does anyone know where Padua Township was located? Mark Carey [email protected]
This morning I downloaded my email and found four MSG's with the happy worm virus. My virus protection software saved me. Thought this warning is needed. Someone I exchanged email with probably got infected and unknowingly forwarded the virus. Don't go jumping me for putting this MSG out some people are new and don't know about virus. Art

Someone was looking for information on COVARDALE recently. I remembered the name since it was so unusual and yesterday while doing some other work ran across a bio on a Matthew Covardale who married Anstis Thompson in Randolph Township. If this is your family and you would like a copy of this bio, please send me your address off the list.
