    2. Janice Chastain Lund
    3. I'm sure someone else knows all the "DETAILS" but they were giving away land in Nebraska at one time or it was VERY inexpensive and a lot of my allied families from Knox County, Illinois also went "west". We just discovered an old Journal of about 500 pages where she tells about her relatives going to Nebraska because of the land. 1. [ILMCLEAN-L] re: moving west
    2. M Swartz
    3. I have a photocopy I made for a look-up of a plat map from 1874 of Danvers Township which would suggest that the desire for farm land would be a factor in people moving west. By that time period there were many families living on smaller parcels of land (i.e. 10-20 acres) especially in the northeast third of the township. 1. Turner Barnes, any Barnes persons related, Archibald family group.
    2. Norma, Apparently you are doing huge favors of persons who have connections to those persons who lived in Bloomingdale or thereabouts at one time. Turner Barnes was my great grandfather and family has told me he died there as they have his will. I haven't a copy of it but thought you might be aware of his name. I don't know that the Archibald family was from there, but ask that you might be alerted to that information. Thanks, Shirla Archibald Klenk

    1. [ILMCLEAN-L] Look-up Requests
    2. M Swartz
    3. Just a note to the many of you who are making lookup requests directly to individuals-- You might also want to consider sending a cc of your request to the ILMCLEAN list. While doing look-ups, it is not uncommon for me (and likely others) to run into information that has been previously posted , even though it might not be what I was after at the moment. Plus, by posting it to the list, it puts the information into the archive so others can reach you who might be researching the same lines. 2. Hi, I found in an article, "Anderson Young lives in the village; (that would be arrowsmith). His farm is just northeast of his residence. One-fourth of the village was laid out on his quarter-section. Good buildings and a good farmer. He has a very fine tract of land." Another paragraph on the history of this town states: "The Village of Arrowsmith was founded when the railroad was built through the cneter of the township. The land upon which the village is located Belonged to Anderson Young, Jonas Fry, James Crosson, and M. Ulmer, ten acres each. Dont know if this Anderson is yours, but I hope this helps! Leslie

    1. Re: [ILMCLEAN-L] Names Found - Birckalbaw
    2. JAMESGRANT YODER
    3. Hi, Allen Weisinger! Hi, Mariane Carraway! Allen, you're my cousin from away back. Sarah Joder was the daughter of Joseph Joder of McLean County who was the brother of Amish bishop Jonathan Yoder. Jonathan was my gr-great grandfather. In the Lantz Cemetery just SE of Carlock, Ill., there is as Elizabeth (Miller) Birckalbaw buried, who had been the wife of Christian Birckalbaw. She died July 7, 1873 age 32 yr, 2 mos. There is also buried there Michael Birckalbaw, died Feb 2, 1869, son of Christian and Elizabeth. The above from McLean County Cemeteries, Vol 8, Dry Grove Township, p. 38. (Booklet can be purchased from the McLean County Museum of History in Bloomington.) Then in my genealogy data base I have a Christian Birchelban whose wife was Mary Schwartzentruber. They had two daughters: 1 Catherine --- who married a Peter Donner,, Sr. and they had a daughter, Catherine Donner. They came from Hesse to Wilmot Twp, Ontario in 1826, to Ohio in 1829, and came to Illinois in 1837. Daughter Catherine became the first wife of Amos Yoder (YR12a36) who was a son of bishop Jonathan oder( first cousin of Sarah Joder). 2 Elizabeth -- who married a Christian K. Miller. Eliz and Christian had two daughters: 2- 1 Elizabeth Birkelbaw Miller who married Joseph Stuckey [That item I got from Marriane awhile back) In Steven Estes history of the North Danvers Mennonite church Elizabeth's middle name was spelled "Birgelbaugh". 2 - 2 Magdalena Birchelban Miller, b.Oct 8 1852, married on September 16 1880 at Danvers, IL to Joash H. Stutzman, eldest child of Sarah Yoder [daughter of Jonathan and sister of Amos above] . Magdalena "Maggie" died March 1 1928 at Danvers, IL. [Magdalena's dates from "Descendants of Barbara Hochstetler and Christian Stutzman" by Harvey Hostetler, p. 673, family 10051] Note the spelling of Birchelban by the Hochstetler book. Joash H. Stutzman later in the century was a minister at the North Danvers Mennonite Church. Joash and Magdalena had several children: <Mary I. Stutzman, July 23, 1881- <David M. Stutzman, April 13, 1885 - ; on Jan 22 1914 married Mabel Petter (1891- ), daughter of H. Petty and Louisa Bright <Clarence F. Stutzman, Jan 2, 1890 - ; on Feb 26, 1926 married Clara Ummel (1899 - ), daughter of Chris Ummel and Marie Aeschilman ; they had a son born Feb 5 1928, John Charles Stutzman. Both Clarence and Clara were killed in an auto accident on March 1, 1928. Of course on the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index database are these: Jacob W. Birckelbaw who married Adda Yoder in McLean County on 03/31/1892, Vol J, page 0282 (Someone on the McLean-L forum mentioned this one this week.) Then there is Joseph W. Birkelbaw who married Fannie L. Calhoun in McLean County on 01/01/1891 vol J, page 0227. Jacob and Joe could be relatives? Also Phoebe -- see below? Also Phoebe A. Birckelbaw who married William A. Forbes in McLean County on 03/10/1891, Vol J, p. 237. I would be interested in other sightings. Jim Yoder <Joash Jr. Stutzman,Jan 17, 1892-1986. ----- Original Message ----- From: Marianne Carraway <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2000 8:07 PM Subject: [ILMCLEAN-L] Names Found > Norma, you are doing everyone a BIG service. 1. [ILMCLEAN-L] Re: Barnes Surname
    2. Hi Charlene, This is what I have The 1920 Census lists a Maggie Barnes, Head of Household and only one living in this dwelling. She was Female, white, divorced and age 62 Listing of Township Officials includes the following Barnes: Town Clerks: 1867- A. G. Barnes 1870-1871-J. W. Barnes Collectors: 1868-1869- J. W. Barnes 1871- J.W. Barnes In addition to that it lists the following gentlemen ahve been elected Justices of the Peace: and A. G. Barnes is listed in that! If you think these individuals are your line, let me know as they are my line also. A.G. Barnes I believe is Alfred George Barnes and he is the father of our gg grandmother Harriet (Hattie) L. Barnes who was married to a Thomas W. Maurice Jr. in 1874. They are all buried at Greenwood Cemetary outside of Arrowsmith. Thanks, Leslie

    1. [ILMCLEAN-L] Re: Arbogast Surname
    2. Here is what I have found out of my articles on the Arbogast family. In a list of the Township Officers of Arrowsmith who have been elected since 1858, the year township organizations took effect: 1872 -- T.W. Maurice: Township Supervisor, S. E. Cline: Clerk, James Crosson: Assessor and J. L. Arbogast: Collector. ** That is out of a book called the History of McLean County. The next thing that mentions this surname and I have to apologize on this one because I just copied the pages I needed instead of writing down the source BUT, we will blame it on my husband because he is the one who found and copied these!!!!! It was some kind of Directory of the past 100 years. It has a paragraph on the Organizations of this town and in this article, it states " The Anerican Legion Charter for the Witt-Webber-Carrell Post at Arrowsmith was issued April 28, 1920, with 23 members." It goes on to list the members of this post and one of the members was a Frank E. Arbogast. **Source was at the McLean County Historical Museum. The next one is from a Biographical Sketch Book of Mclean County Residents and I actually do not have the beginning of this paragraph because I only copied the one page because my info was in the middle of it but I did notice the name at the top and maybe you can put two and two together. Sorry! >From the top of my page it starts: "Mr Arbogast held the office of School Director six years, Collector one term (probably the J.L mentioned earlier) and is at present School trustee: he also held, for four years, the office of Constable in this township. He was married to Katie O. Henderson Dec 27, 1866; She was born in Lewis Co., Ky., Dec 11, 1847. The fruit of this marriage is five children, four of whom are living and one dead---Mary E., William H., Anna B., Sarah E., and Birdie, died May 15, 1875. Mrs. Arbogasts mother's father was in the war of 1812." The last thing is a page out of the 1920 census and let me say again, this page is awful to read, so... the first names may be off a little! 1920: Looks like Darwin L. Arbogast: Head of household--Male, white, age38, married Wife: Looks like Lena age 34 then Hazel B. daughter age 14 then another daughter - name illegible- something D. (almost looks like Amy ) age was 12 another daughter Ruth M. age 8 Another Daughter: name pretty illegible - something M. (Maybe Erin??) age 6 and a son age 11 months. Possibly Darwin again and the middle initial is L. Sorry I cant be more clear on those. Hope this helps you guys. Let me know! Leslie
