I am a new subscriber. I am researching the Phillips Families of McLean County. One of the brickwalls I have run into is George M. Honnor. He was a long time resident of Downs and married Lillian Phillips in 1911. He died sometime after 1924. Would anyone have information on his death date or burial spot. I am also interested in information on a Sina Teter, a sister to my great gradnmother, Sarah (Teter) Phillips who also lived in Downs, Sarah was a wife to Solomon Phillips. Any information or photos would be greatly appreciated. Kenny Phillips

Hi Everyone, I have acquired for a few weeks the book "Early Virginia Immigrants" by Greer and if anyone would like to me to take a look for your surname, let me know. I know that this is a Mclean County page, but alot of ancestors (as mine did) came from Virginia before Illinois so..... if you want me to check, I can do that and I hope it helps!! Leslie Maurice
The U. S. Gov. opened lands in Nebraska for homesteading. They also granted lands under the Timber Culture Act. If you think your ancestors got land from the Fed. Gov. under either, check with the county where they settled for the recording of a patent in the deed book. This will give the land description, which is all you need to write to the Nat. Archives for the file. Homestead files tend to be more complete than those for Timber Culture grants, but both are great records. The current NARA charge is $10 per file. If you don't find a patent, but also can't find a deed where your ancestor bought land, but find him selling land at a later date, suspect that the land was granted directly from the gov. Through one of these acts. Send the land description to NARA anyway. They do not charge if no file is found. Leah in Georgia
