    3. This address: <http://www.ancestry.com/search/io/choosetw.asp?c=4&state=Illinois&county=Mc Lean> will take you directly to the McLean page for the 1900 census records. Once you click on "unknown townships" you'll be presented with a list of Districts. Once you choose the district you're interested in, you'll have to sign in. If you're not a member, you can just click on the button that say's "Get a Premium Membership NOW!" I just wish they had the indexes online. But it's still nice browsing through the pages. 3. Does IRAD have a copy of the register, or do they just have the marriage record. From reading these postings, the register has more information. The copy of the marriage that I got from IRAD for my ancestors told me nothing that I did not already know. If the register has more information, that is what I would like to see. May I assume that I would have to write to the County Court house to get a copy of the register and the marriage record? One more question. Is this true just for MClean Co or does it apply to all Iliniois counties ? Thanks to all the listers who so kindly help! 2. Does any one kow if there is a source for marriage applications for 1899? I am seeking information on a marriage that occured on 12 Apr 1899 in McClean County. Henry F MYERS Olga BEHNKE NORRIS (Widow) I believe there is a possibility that Olga is my Great Grandmother and the application may tell the tale. Search of census and soundex has turned up nothing so apparently they did not live there or used different first names. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. 3. Just wanted to say thanks to the many people who have already emailed me personally about the "PANTAGRAPH PTO (PTG). & STA. CO BLOOMINGTON, ILL". In case there are others interested in this, I thought I'd share it will the list. It ends up it is the company who printed the blank death certificates for the county courthouse: The Pantagraph Photography and Stationary Company of Bloomington, IL. Thanks again to all! P.S. Still looking for the undertaker, though. :) -- Cara Showers Anchorage, Alaska [email protected] Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://raogk.rootsweb.com

    1. Undertaker: E.H. Preston
    2. Cara Showers
    3. I recently received a copy of a death certificate from 1913 from the McLean Co. courthouse. The undertaker's name was E.H. Preston, license no.: 2736 in Bloomington, IL. Is E.H. Preston, the name of the funeral home? Or does anyone know what funeral home he belonged to? And, is this funeral home still in existance today? I found a Preston-Hanley Funeral Home online, but they are located about 40 miles away in Pekin and Creve Coeur. I don't know if this is them. Also, in the upper left corner of the death certificate, in real small lettering was: "PANTAGRAPH PTO. & STA. CO BLOOMINGTON, ILL" Does anyone know what this might mean? It might be something insignificant, but I just wanted to make sure. Also, the "PTO" might be "PTG" I can't make it out quite clearly. Thanks for the help! -- Cara Showers Anchorage, Alaska [email protected] Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://raogk.rootsweb.com

    3. The Illinois State Archives I was referring to is the IRAD (Illinoise Regional Archives Depository). Their website is: <http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/archives.html> . I still haven't been able to fully understand their website and how to search it. It had alot of links and I can never seem to find what I'm looking for. Nonetheless, the IRAD office is extremely helpful. I haven't requested an obituary through them, but I did request a death certificate. All I had was the year he died and his name. They searched their archives and found not death record. They referred me to the county courthouse who had the copy of the death certificate. The wonderful thing about IRAD is that they do not charge for their research time. I had sent them a check which included research fees as well as the copy of the record. In their return letter they stated that they do not charge research fees only copy fees (which is $1.00 per copy - no minimum fee). Also, IRAD picks up the bill for postage so you don't have to send them the customary SASE envelope. Since they couldn't find the record, they returned my check and my SASE envelope. I was very impressed with their professionalism and generosity. Best of all, I sent my requestion, from Anchorage, Alaska, on the Jan 29th and received a letter back from them on Feb 10. That's only a week and a half. That's the fastest research response I've ever gotten. I highly recommend IRAD to all researchers. 2. Dan & Lynn Steffen
    3. Harve-- I don't know of any way to access county military death records online, but you can get information at the Illinois State Archives website. Go to: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases.html and select the Civil War Database. Follow the instructions for search. I turned up several John Cummings, one of them from Bloomington, although it is possible he may have enlisted elsewhere. This particular John Cummings enlisted in company K of the 8th Illinois infantry. From there, you can go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilcivilw/ and look up that unit. The roster is online, and you can see that he enlisted July 1861 and apparently re-enlisted in 1864. He was later transferred to the 23rd infantry regiment. Unfortunately, their rosters are not online at rootsweb yet, but you should be able to write to the State archives and get copies of his roster entry for both units. If he died in the service, it should be noted on the muster rolls. Good luck. 1. Cain/Burkholder information
    2. I have asked several individuals for help in McLean Co. info--and they have been good about responding. But I really need help in two specific areas. Thomas Kane/Cain, died in Heyworth Twp., McLean Co. on Feb 9, 1875. Looking for any newspaper account or obit. on his death, plus a possible location of burial. The other area is any information about one John W. Cummings. He married Lorissa Burkholder ( my ggm )on Jan.13, 1860 in McLean Co., but disappears after that. She remarries around 1865. Is there a way to access Military records for the county over the internet to see if he enlisted in the Union Army and was possibly killed in action ? I believe they had a daughter, Isobel or Belle around 1862, but have not been able to prove it. Any help greatly appreciated. Harve Wolfe [email protected]
