    1. [ILMCLEAN-L] James and Clarence Reynodls, Mrs. Robert Leek
    2. shari & chuck horton
    3. Am looking for info on the children of James Irvin Reynolds of DeWitt County. Irvin's obit, Jan. 13, 1926, shows three of his surviving children, James, Clarence, and Mrs. Robert Leek, residing in Bloomington at the time of his death. Was wondering if Mrs. Leek's first name is Elise or Jeaus, or Marion? Also, if anyone knows of a Rolofson family that may have resided in Bloomington with a son named Beryl, I would appreciate the info. Thanks, Shari

    2. Mary Ann Conrad
    3. Janet, Here is a site that you can check for newspapers for McLean Co. IL. There is a town and county in Illinois called EFFINGHAM. It is four counties South of McLean Co. Go to this site and click on the county and their newspaper titles will appear. http://www.library.uiuc.edu/techserv/inp/database/mapresults.asp?group=McLean You can also interlibrary newspaper microfilm from IL. Check with your local library ILL policy, or read about their policies at: http://www.state.il.us/hpa/lib/Microfilm.htm Mary Ann >Hello Listers. I am somewhat new to this List. 2. Dan & Lynn Steffen
    3. What you are probably looking for is Effingham, Effingham County, Illinois. According to the Illinois Newspaper Project database, a newspaper called the _Democrat_ was published there in the time period you are interested in. Go to: http://www.library.uiuc.edu/techserv/inp/webpages/main.htm and click on the link to search the database and enter just "Effingham" as city and "Illinois" as state to view the newspapers, years, and where they are available. Elsewhere on the page are links to information on how to obtain copies and costs. Good luck. 1. [ILMCLEAN-L] To Jean, Lost Relatives
    2. shari & chuck horton
    3. Jean, I found some of my ancestors in Canada in the 1881 Canada census on the Church of Latter Day Saints website. It is www.familysearch.org/ Click the 1880 US, 1881 Canada Census on the left side. When filling in the blanks for the information, wait for it to downloading. A red "loading" word comes across by the word you typed in. Just takes a second. I had better results putting in the last name only, Birthplace Country, race or etnic background. If you know specifics, you can try that. The lists opf names that come up can be long. I just sorted through the names and checked those that I thought dates or names correlated to what I already had. There is a download you can do, also. I found the download gives basically the same info that you first see. Where the census took place is at the bottom of each page, i.e. for Sarah Reynolds, Sarnia, Lambton, Ontario. Some of them were found in Thamesville, Botwell, Ontario, and Cariboo, New Caledonia, Omineca, British Columbia. Thamesville and Sarnia are close to Detroit and Port Huron Michigan over the border. I could not find New Caledonia, Omineca, British Columbia on Atlas. Did find Cariboo River and Mountain Range in central British Columbia around Prince George. British Columbia is on the Western part of Canada. I assume this is where a lot of gold mining went on. It lists my ancestor as a gold miner. Hope this helps, and Good Luck Shari Apparently my granddmother and her brother were living with an uncle or other relative at the time. I know for a fact who my granddmother's parents were. It also shows that the relative she was living with was born in the USA, but of Irish origin. Maybe other relatives lived there, and they were on "extended visit" at the time.

    3. I have a James Barnhill, born in Arkansas in 1886 to Ellen Scarbrough and UNK Barnhill. He was in illinois living in Randolph twp in 1900 with his mother(widowed)brother William(b. il 1888) and grandparents Scarbrough. So here are my 3 questions, does anyone know who the father of these boys was? James is then listed in downs twp in 1920 married with 3 children but by 1930 James and his wife Hazel are gone/died and the kids are living with relatives in Heyworth.Could someone try to find their death dates between 1921 and 1930?If anyone knows who the Barnhill was that was married to Ellen Scarbrough, could you give me a death date on him also please?? Thanks so much for your help. Sherry Plato (427-347 B.C. ~ You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.

    1. [ILMCLEAN-L] different spellings
    2. shari & chuck horton
    3. Yes, I have tried every spelling that I can come up with. I did find my Sarah living with William Reynolds in the 1881 Canada census. I believe this is the same William Reynolds that J. Irvin, Sarah's brother, was living with in KY. Have a great day, Shari. And thanks again.

    1. [ILMCLEAN-L] census download
    2. shari & chuck horton
    3. Thanks Tammy, I will try it again. I thought my husband had wiped it out, but managed to bring what you sent back. What I am having trouble with is "Wordpad." A cousin has sent me info on William Williamson, and a few Reynolds as e-mail attachments. It always comes up as "Wordpard has caused error in M----ll." I have tried different downloads, and still nothing. Have going the Save route, changed name of file, etc. Even changed the Icon. I just think for whatever reason, the configuration is not be accepted. I did manage to download the 1881 Canada census that I needed. By the way, the icon on the e-mail attachment looks like notepad, but has a red "A" in the lower right hand corner. The documents say "Wordpad," i.e. Sarah Reynolds, Wordpad Document. I have sent to DeWitt County Genealogical Society a check to do research, and IRAD. I am finding that a lot of people who were born in, and lived in, IL. went to Canada for a short time, then migrated back. Thank you again for your time and efforts. I appreciate it. My sister-in-law has to be the luckiest beginner at this genealogy thing. She has done her complete "Reiger" family, from Whiteside and Mclean County area, the Horton side, here in South Carolina, and now is doing the Gibson side here in South Carolina. It will all go to the South Carolina GenWeb Project. Hopefully, after Christmas, we will be able to transcribe a census or two for Beaufort County, and do a cemetery project. Have a great week, Shari

    1. [ILMCLEAN-L] Zoletta and Genealogical Societies
    2. shari & chuck horton
    3. Thanks again, Zoelatta. I will try the Bloomington-Normal Genealogical Societies. I think I may have found my grandfather, William Williamson, living with his brothers, James and John, in Adams County. He was 15 at the time which makes him born in 1865 instead of 1860. And they only knew the place of birth of their mother, IRE. Nothing on their dad. That is the info mom always gave me, so I think I am really starting to get somewhere. I found many of the Williamsons/Reynolds not in any 1880 census. But found that many people born in USA migrated to Canada during that time frame. Found several Williamsons and Reynolds in the 1881 LDS Canada census. They must have moved there during gold rush days, or logging, then came back. Now I just have to figure out how to download the census. Having trouble with it. Thanks again for the info. Shari

    2. Larry Wilson
    3. Can anyone help me with a page missing on the 1870 Ancestry.com census pages? It is page 16 of 24 on the site. The missing page is in Arrowsmith Township. The page before the missing one says: Page No. 15, Arrowsmith Township, Post Office Saybrook, 24 is stamped above the name at the top Charles P. Merriman, Ass't Marshall. The page after the missing page says: Page No. 7, Arrowsmith Township, Post Office Padua, 25 is stamped above the name at the top Charles P. Merriman, Ass't Marshall. Is there a Joseph PARTEE or PURTEE or a VANSCOYOC (various spellings) listed on this page? My gggrandfather Joseph Partee was living in Padua after his discharge in the Civil War and I am trying to find him on the 1870 census. My ggrandmother was born in 1874 in Bloomington. 1. [ILMCLEAN-L] Another IRAD response
    2. shari & chuck horton
    3. Thanks Zoeletta, It seems to be mixed bag on the Irad documents. Some come early, and some take awhile. I am beginning to think if they have found someone with a big history, it is a quick response time. When someone is very elusive, it takes more time. I just hate spending out too much money for finding nothing, which I have done. Do you know if you can IRAD other IL areas in the IRAD system while waiting for ones from another depository? I was thinking of trying the IRAD for Madison and Adams County. Thanks again to all those who responded. Shari

    1. [ILMCLEAN-L] IRAD
    2. shari & chuck horton
    3. Thanks to all those who responded to my question about IRAD. Just about the time I am going to quit this, something new happens!! The son of my father's first wife suddenly appeared on a mailing list in Michigan. Another cousin responded to the message and forwarded it to me. What a terrific find. He had been searching for divorce papers of his grandmother and my dad. He has also been trying to do research on my dad's family as his mother and my dad always remained close. I have back to 1400's on the Phillips side of family. We are going to exchange photos and info. And, his family came from Canada. The two "cousins" got together on internet and think they have found some of the Williamsons and Reynolds that I have been searching for. It amazes me how many people are looking for their ancestors, and trying to resolve "old issues" among family members. Have a great weekend everyone!!! It is cold here in the deep South, also. Shari

    3. Since they put the death records on line it takes much longer. The first ones I sent for came in 4 months. Since you can only get 2 at a time and you have to wait until you receive them to order 2 more, it seems like a slow process. I sent the last 2 two months ago and I am trying to be patient. Peg > Does anyone know how long it takes to get copies back from IRAD? I sent for my free two copies of death and marriage certificates back in June. My sister-in-law has not received her info yet. I know college students volunteer their time to do this for us, and greatly appreciate it. I wanted to see what kind of info the certificates have before spending anymore money. This can get rather expensive, especially when nothing is found. > Shari > > > ==== ILMCLEAN Mailing List ==== > > McLean County website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmclean/index.htm

    2. I forgot you have to use each person's e-mail address to personally reply, so please forgive my taking up so much space on the McLean County list. I will remember that next time! That being said, thank you to everyone who has answered my query. I have some new ideas. Most of my research was done over 30 years ago, and there are certainly some better resources available today. 3. Looking for the names of cemeteries in Gridley Township, and /or look-up for Elijah Dean and wife Nancy Dean. He died around 1870 and she died ca 1890's. Did the city of Towanda branch off Gridley Township or is it a whole other area, as their family was found on later census in Towanda ? Sandy
