    1. Henry White and Samuel Giles
    2. On the 1840 census Henry WHITE is listed in Connellsville in Fayette county Pennsylvania. With him are his wife, Elizabeth GILES WHITE, and family. Elizabeth's father, Samuel Giles is also listed in Connellsville. His wife, Dolly DAY GILES, is with him. On March 11, 1843, Henry WHITE bought 80 acres of land in township "46N" in McHenry county, Illinois. His daughter and my great grandmother, Sarah WHITE ENGLISH, was born in Illinois on July 21, 1844. I'm guessing she was born in McHenry county On September 1, 1845, Henry WHITE bought 80 acres of land in township "45N" of McHenry county and Samuel GILES bought 80 acres of land in township "46N" of McHenry county. "Biographical and Portrait CYCLOPEDIA of Fayette County Pennsylvania" states "Henry and Elizabeth's son Christopher was engaged to work on a Mississippi river boat and was never heard from again." Henry and Elizabeth WHITE and their family are listed on the 1850 census back in Fayette county Pa. I have not seen Samuel and Dolly GILES on the 1850 census but I believe they were in Illinois. 98 year old Dolly GILES is listed on the 1860 census at the home of Henry and Elizabeth WHITE in Fayette county. I'm guessing that Samuel died between 1850 and 1860. The loss of Christopher WHITE and the birth of Sarah WHITE are the only two references to Illinois I've been able to add to family history. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to how I might find information on the birth of Sarah WHITE, (her father was raised Lutheran), and the death of Samuel GILES. Are any newspapers from McHenry county available for the middle of the nineteenth century? Also, is there an on-line version of the 1850 census for McHenry county? Thank you. Frank McGrath
