    1. MEEHAN & MILLER - Marengo & Chicago
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: MEEHAN, MILLER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Zg.2ADI/705 Message Board Post: My great great grandfather was William John MEEHAN (sometimes spelled MEHAN), who married approx 1968 to Alice MILLER of Marengo Illinois. They lived in Chicago and had 3 children: Willis James MEEHAN born 1869, James Adelbert MEEHAN born 1871 and Carrie MEEHAN born 1879. Family stories say that William John MEEHAN came from either County Cork or County Clare in Ireland to America at the age of 14 or 16, and was possibly an orphan at the time. There are a few passenger lists showing a William John (or William or John), but we have not been able to prove any one of those is our William John MEEHAN. He is not on the 1870 census with his wife, Alice (she is listed with her parents, George and Elvira MILLER, in Marengo Illiniois, along with her first son, Willis MEEHAN). William John is said to have died a couple of months before Carrie was born meaning late 1878 or early 1879. Therefore, he is not enumerated on the 1880 census with his wife and children. He is not buried in the Marengo Cemetery where Alice and other family members are buried. Also, there are many William MEEHANs and John MEEHANs in Chicago city directories, but, again, we have been unable to prove any of those to be ours. Another family story says he fought in the Civil War, but again, we have been unable to connect any of those Williams or Johns to our family. I'm hoping that someone in this list might have come across some information that might help me in my search for my elusive William John MEEHAN. If you have, please email me at kmw328@aol.com. Thank you.
