The Crystal Lake Historical Society invites to you attend the second annual Cemetery Walk, which will be held at the Lake Avenue Cemetery (rain or shine) on Sunday, September 7, 2003 between 1:00-4:00 P.M. Ticket donation is $5 for adults and $3 for students, payable at the gate. The Lake Avenue Cemetery (originally known simply as the "Crystal Lake Cemetery") is the oldest public burying ground in Crystal Lake and Algonquin Township. The cemetery was laid out in 1840. Since that time, many of the early settlers of Crystal Lake have been buried in this location. Six individuals/couples will be featured at the Cemetery Walk: James and Sarah Crow, Sylvia Day Gates, John Brink, Hannah Beardsley Wallace, Mary and Lizza Pierson, and Walter and Laura Fitch. Costumed interpreters will present a first-person performance of the life and times of the featured individual/couple. Come learn how each of these citizens contributed to the development of Crystal Lake during their lifetime. The cemetery is located on Lake Avenue between Nash and Van Buren Streets. Please use these side streets for parking. A keepsake booklet, tour and refreshments are included in the ticket price. For more information, please call email Diana Kenney at: kenney@mc.net
