There is a Rockford outfit (Rockford Map Publishers) that publishes an annual land atlas and plat book that may be in local libraries. Also, a tract search at the County Recorder's office will reveal ownership throughout the years. You could contact one of the local title insurance companies and request an Abstract of Title for the property. This could be a little pricey but thorough.
