Henry Betts/Betz, b. 1845 NY who shows up in 1880 census in Riley, McHenry County, IL, with wife Nancy (b. abt. 1849 IL) and children, George (b. abt. 1871 IL) and Nellie (b. abt. 1879 IL). According to this census, Henry's father was born Bavaria; mother born Hesse Darmstadt. and/or 2. Phillip J. Betts/Betz, b. abt. 1848 NY [date might be inaccurate], who in 1880 was a clerk, single, in Coral, McHenry, IL. His father was also born Bavaria, mother born Hesse Darmstadt. He was enumerated with the VanDiver family in 1880. I believe these two men were brothers, and I am trying to confirm that they are the sons of Jacob Betz (1812-?) and Katharina Hauck. I am not subscribed to the mailing list version of McHenry, so please post your response to the message board or to me directly. Thanks. -- Jillaine Smith jillainedc@yahoo.com

I think I read on one of the sites that it was a dry goods/general store. I don't recall that a name was given. The store was a departure for the Smith family, as most of them had been farmers. Ellen Smith married a farmer and a couple of her sons farmed in Iroquois County. My grandfather wanted no part of farming and became a dentist! If you run across any more information about the store, please let me know. I'll keep looking for additional information and keep you posted. Donna

I believe that family traces its line back to David Eiklor who married Maude Adams. David was the son of David and Blondena (huyck) Eiklor. David lived for a while with his brother Wm Frederick Eiklor's family in Genoa. Sone years ago there was a Steve Eiklor descended from that line living in the Huntley area. Believed he worked in Woodstock. Gene Eiklor
A friend of mine sent me an email saying that when she typed her name into the Google.com search bar, that her name and address came up. So I also went on Google and typed in my first and last name. I'm in total shock! I've been researching my genealogy for a couple of years now and I've posted probably close to 100 messages on different genealogy sites and every one of them, including my email address is listed there. Isn't this an invasion of my privacy, so to speak, or are we all fair game because this is the internet? Thanks, Joyce

I believe all 12 were born in Johnson, VT. He was the 5th of 12 and George was the 7th of 12. My great grandmother was #12. You can get all the children's names and birth dates on RootsWeb.com. Enter Lemuel Hawley Smith and click search. Then click on WorldConnect. The entry you want is the 5th one. That one lists all 12 children. I know a little bit about the Langdells, if you are interested. Also, I have tons of information on the Smiths. I hope this helps. Donna
