Alex Andrew Steele was born April 14, 1851 in Missouri and died April 23 , 1920 in McDonough Co. He was the son of Robert Steele and Mary Arnold . He first appears in the 1880 census in McDonough Co., Walnut Grove, with his mother, who is widowed, siblings: Melinda, John, and Nancy. He 1st married Lavina E. Stoneking Nov 18, 1883. She died and according to her obit (1892), there were five children who were suriving. Who were they? What happened to them? Alex 2nd married Anna A. Starr Stepember 13, 1894. No children that I am aware of. Anna divorced him the same year. I have tried to get copies of the divorce decree, but IRAD is unable to find them. He 3rd married Elizabeth Brock Tandy (my great grandmother) on March 9, 1898. According to Alex obit and another newspaper article I have, he two brothers: John and Robert and a sister: Mrs. Lucy We_leber who were still living at the time of his death. John was in Macomb, Robert was in Quincy, sister unknown. My grandfather John Huey Steele was probably born out of wedlock. Everything I have says that Alex and Elizabeth were his parents, but he was born prior to their marriage. Stories passed down were that he was the son of a McCullough/McCalully or something similar to this who was living a few doors away from the Tandy's in Fandon, Illinois in 1893- 1894. If anyone can help, I most certainly would appreciate it. Thank you, Shirley
