GEORGE2 SWIGART (ADAM1) was born May 08, 1788 in Frederick, Maryland, and died June 20, 1855 in Tiffin, Oh (Seneca, county, Ohio)buried McCutchenville cementery, Seneca County,. He married MARY GANTZ March 21, 1811 in Gettysburg, PA, daughter of GEORGE GANTZ and DORCAS DAY. Notes for GEORGE SWIGART: This was found in the FREDERICK COUNTY MILITIA IN THE WAR OF 1812 - Rewards were offered by Captain Duvall in th e local Frederick newspaper for the following who deserted while at camp at Bladensburg, on Sunday, 14th August, 1814, “Privates in my company, now in the service of the U. States, : : Daniel Misinger, substitute, dark eyes, dark hair, one fore finger off at the first joint, by profession a laborer. But it went on about who all desserted and they were seeking to find them. Then after several men were listed, then there was a section on who was serving and their positions under the Captain. Capt. Daniel Zacharias Troop of Cavalry of the Second Regiment first Cavalry Distirct Maryland Militia. Service 7 Aug - 10 Sep 1814. Zacharias’s company formed at Westminster and was discharged at Port Tobacco, Charles County. Zacharias was later succeeded by John Shuee. Daniel Zacharias, Capt. John L. Wells, 1st Lieut. There was also Hans George ( Hans Geo.), J. Jost , Philip. It said in the Pennsylvania German Pioneers on Pg 8 & 9 about the Passenger Ship List on who was on it. This is what it said... This is a true List of Passengers, imported in the Ship William & Sarah, Will m Hill, Mast r from Rotterdam, among whom are no convicts. Given upon oath, by Tho. Tober. “ At a Council held at the courhouse of Philadelphia, September 21 st, 1727, ... A signed list was laid before the Board, of the Names of one hundred & nine Palatines, who with their famililes, making in all about four hundred Persons, were imported in this Province in the Ship William and Sarah, William Hill, Master, from Rotterdam, but last from Dover, as by Clearance from the Officers of his majesties Customs there: And the said Master being asked, if he had any license from the Court of Great Britain for transporting those People, & what their Intentions were in coming hiteher, said that he had no other License or Allowance for their Transportation that the above Clearance, and that he believed they designed to settle in this Province. They were then called in, and the several Persons whose names were subjoyned did repeat & subscribe the forgoing Declaration . : >From the Minutes of the Provincial Council, printed in Coonial Record, vol. III, p. 283. List 1 B - Palatines imported in the ship William & Sarah, Willm Hill, Comm r from Rotterdam, who hereunto sett their hands the 21 st of Sep r 1727, in the presence of the Gov r & Council. It has a whole lot of people with German names, then it has later down on the bottom of the second column- Hans Phillip Schweikhardt, which was probably the original way they probably spelled their names in Germany back then anyway. George & Mary (Gantz) Swigart George Swigart, son of Adam and Elizabeth, was born about 1788, probably in Frederick County, Maryland. On March 21,1811 George married Mary Gantz in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Rev. Grubb performed the ceremony. Mary was born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and was a daughter of George and Dorcas ( Day) Gantz, natives of Germany and the Days form Ireland. George learned the trade of a brickmason and plasterer. While living in Frederick Co, a son, Jeremiah, was born December 2, 1814. About 1815 George and Mary moved their family to Newark, Licking County, Ohio. The move was made using two twams: one a four- horse team, and the other a three- horse team. George and Mary had six sons and three daughters. This listings does not indicated order of birth as we still have much to learn about the family. Jeremiah born December 2, 1814 in Frederick CO, Maryland; Angeline married a Mr. Reynolds; Mary married a Mr. Graves; Elizabeth married a Mr. Petticord; Josiah ; Willard born in 1834 in Ohio ; Stephen H. died in 1856. Stephen was a printer ; Monroe ; William C. born December 12, 1824 in Newa4rk, Licking CO, Ohio. William died May 6, 1839 he married Martha P. Gage.; Name not known; Name not known. During the War of 1812 George was a private in the Calvary commanded by Captain Daniel Zacharius of Maryland Militia commanded by Colonel Ken and Major John Cook. George volunteered and was mustered into service at Westminster, Frederick Co, Maryland on the 7th. of August 1814. he served about 40 days being discharged in Fredericktown, Maryland. George continued as a contractor for many years. Then decided to go into farming and purchased a farm near St. Louisville living there till 1846 when he sold the place and bought another farm near Tiffin, Seneca Co, Ohio. He lived there until his death June 20, 1855. We believe Mary continued to live in Seneca Co. with a sister. We have no information on her death or where she is buried. There is no stone for Mary next to her husband in the McCutchenville Methodist Cemetery, Seneca Co. Ohio. But there just might have not been enough money or any stone to be placed at her grave site either. During the War of 1812 it was not uncommon to serve for 40 days or less.
