The first sermon by a representative of the Universalist creed was preached in Macomb by REV. MR. GARDNER in 1846, and a congregation organized by REV. I. M. WESTFALL in 1851, with the following list of members: R. M. BONHAM, J. 2. WESTFALL, J. M. MARTIN, JOHN S. SMITH, ORSAMUS WALKER, J. L. N. HALL, WILLIAM D. PENROSE, F. L. WESTFALL, D. D. ROLL, GREEN C. LANE, H. H. BURR, JOHN Q. LANE, JOHN L. HENTON, and J. H. BAKER. The congregation occupies a handsome church building erected in 1896, on West Carroll Street. The present pastor is REV. MR. ALCOTT.
