My GGGrandfather, Peter LELLMANN (b. 1838, Germany, d. Jan 1876, McDonough County?) is buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Tennesee Twp, along with one of his children, William O. Lellmann. I have no record of Peter until he obtained a marriage license with Amanda E. POPE in neighboring Hancock County on 12-Nov-1861. I don't know where they actually got married, but they had 4 children, all allegedly born in Colchester, in McDonough County, between 1862 and 1873. Peter died in Jan 1876, and his widow later moved to Chicago to live with a daughter and her husband. To make life more interesting, the name LELLMANN is frequently misspelled during transliterations, and Peter's gravestone is said to be badly damaged and nearly unreadable. The issue: With all of these people being born in, dying in, and possibly being married in McDonough County, I am hoping to turn up some records. I welcome recommendations for the best place to look for records from that period.
