Thank you for the information, Mary Jane. You had a question about my info below: In a message dated 10/17/00 10:20:02 AM Central Daylight Time, maryjane@macomb.com writes: << You also note "Charles Forrest LONGWELL b 1898 Maquon Knox County IL (or Macomb??)." Maquon is in Knox Co IL, but Macomb is in McDonough Co IL, some distance from each other. >> The reason I have a question mark for these towns is because both of these names have appeared at different times for the birthplace of Charles Forrest LONGWELL. When he was killed in 1921, someone filled out the death certificate and listed as "Place of Birth" - "Macomb, IL". His mother's name, which is documented that he didn't know a year earlier, is listed as "Mary INGRAM". (now known as May INGRAM) When I saw this death certificate from 1921 Davenport IA, I searched all over IL for his birth record of 1898. None found. But I did find that his father was born and raised in Maquon, IL, and Charles possibly lived there as a small boy. Before 1915, he and his father and stepmother lived in Galesburg (just north of Maquon) in Knox County and moved to the Quad Cities area (Moline IL, Davenport IA). At that point I had information that the maternal family lived in Schuyler and Fulton County, but there were no records of the family ever being in Mcdonough County. At that point, I came to the conclusion that whomever filled out the death certificate must have mistaken "Maquon" for "Macomb". Possibly his father ...or even his 19 year old widow who knew almost nothing about her deceased husband's family. Now that my research is beginning to lead me to Mcdonough County.... I am back to questioning his birthplace. So..now you have the rest of the story! :D Thanks for all of your help! Valerie
