    3. Hi, My family were in Hills Grove, too. I had no idea it was so small. Asal OWEN and his wife Elizabeth (GRAFTON) OWEN are buried there. He died in 1869 and she in 1856. They settled in McDonough County some time after 1838. Several of their children were married there, including my ancestor Bethel OWEN, who married Nancy Ann ST. CLAIR (SINCLAIR) in 1845. Her brother, George SINCLAIR married Sarah SNODGRASS. Diane Hettrick, Seattle dhettrick@earthlink.net

    2. Hills Grove Methodist Church is still active and is near where the town site was. The ocation is Tennessee Township, south of US Highway 136 and just east of Illinois Highway 61. This is in southcentral/southwestern McDonough County. The closest existing towns are Tennessee and Colmar. If you let me know what landmarks your map show in that area, I can give you more specifics. --melissa Ron Bryant wrote: >I am looking for the location of a small town called Hill's Grove (or >Hillsgrove) in McDonough Co. 1. SMITHS in McDonough Co
    2. Bud & Jari Sharpe
    3. Anna Jane SMITH was my g-g'mo, b 14 Jun 1857 in Huntingdon Co, PA, d 29 Feb 1924 in Cuba, Fulton Co, m Nathaniel W. MURPHY, 7 Oct 1874 in Macomb. She was one of 3 daughters and 3 sons of Joseph and Mary (MURFIN) SMITH, both born in Co Derby, England. Joseph SMITH is a very common name and there apparently were a few in McDonough Co, confusing my research. For example, the 1880 census for Fulton Co, Vermont Twp, names a Joseph, 60, and Mary, 65. This could be my ancestors, except that I have death dates for Joseph and Mary in 1873. I don't expect anyone to solve my problems, but I would welcome any info on the Joseph SMITHS of McDonough Co, and I will try to sort them into the different families. I have quite a bit of info on the above MURPHY line if anyone is interested. Bud Sharpe, budnjari@webcombo.net

I have some excerpts from (I think) this book, but would like to see the entire book if I could. When you have time, could you check for the following: Josiah HARRISON (d. 1852): I have the information about his serving in the State Legislature, but no details on his death. Margarett DRISCOLL/DRISKELL HARRISON, his widow, who married George HIRE in 1862. I need her death records also. Josiah D. HARRISON who died in 1861 or 1862 probably while fighting in the Civil War. Joel and his wife and family came to Nebraska and settled in Clay and Hamilton Cos. Joel married Eleanor BOYD around 1866 I suppose in McDonough Co or close by. 3. Hi Jamie, This has been fun! I got on the net and phone and found that the Chavalier Lodge in Bushnell is no longer in existence, and there is no Grand Lodge for the Knights of Pythias in Illinois. I did talk to the contact person for the Missouri Grand Lodge, and he said that if records are still available, they would only give the member's age, date he joined, dates of ranks, and when he past away. The sponsor may or may not be mentioned. He suggested contacting the Supreme Lodge and enquiring from them where the records may be located. You can do a search on the net for "Knights of Pythias" and get that information. Good luck in your search! 3. Hi Everyone, A couple of days ago I sent the list a letter regarding worm viruses that are going around. I received the following letter today... >Hi, Robin. Wanted to let you know that there is a nasty little worm going around, and Thursday I got 3 of them that tried to "worm" their way into my hard-drive, and Friday, I got another, that said it was from ILMCDONOUGH-L! I know rootsweb can't send, so you may want to warn other listmembers that it is smart enough to know who mails things there... and NOT to open any attachment that ends in .exe unless they verify that >someone has really sent them something! To restate: Rootsweb will not allow attachments to be sent to the mailing lists, so if you receive a letter that says its from a Rootsweb mailing list WITH an attachment - DO NOT OPEN! Thanks, Robin Listowner
