Here's another part of what Louis YOUNG sent to me to submit to the Lists, YOUNG-FRANCE Two of the best young people of this community hied themselves to the study of Rev. Fred Wilson on Wednesday evening at 8:30 and that good man spoke the words in uniting in marriage Mr. Ralph Young and Miss Bertha France. The ring ceremony was used. The young people were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. William Sweeny. The bride is the daughter of Theodore France and one of our most estimable young ladies and is loved and respected by a large circle of friends, and the groom is a son of Supervisor and Mrs. Marion Young, residing in the Flatwoods district southwest of town, and is one of the very best, steady and industrious farmer boys in this community and has the respect of all who know him. It is said the young couple will take charge of the Young farm and Mr. and Mrs. Young retire. The Union joins with their hosts of friends and admirers in extending to them congratulations and best wishes for a long, happy journey down the pathway of married life. ...........................Submitted by Kathleen (Stoneking) Cooper Married, At the residence of the bride's parents of near Vermont Ill. on Wednesday, August 15th Mr. William Young to Miss Cora Bottenburg. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Freeze, pastor of the Presbyterian church of that neighborhood, at four o'clock in the afternoon. At the conclusion of the performance of the solemn rite, a sumptuous wedding dinner was served to the newly married pair and fifty witnesses of the felicitous event. The bride is the second daughter of Mr. William Bottenburg, a prominent citizen of Fulton county. The groom is a industrious young farmer and of excellent family. Many rich and appropriate presents were bestowed.--Abingdon Argus. .........................Submitted by Kathleen (Stoneking) Cooper in Rantoul, IL This was typed as per clipping was typed.
Hi List, I requested and received a lookup on the 1880 McDonough census (transcribed by the McDonough County Genealogical Society) for DAVID BARNHARD. He was listed on page 292 of transcribed census as living in Bardolph with wife and daughter. I ordered the film of census to see if other family could be close by, I've been through the film three times and still can't find David Barnhard. Can someone tell me if actual census page # is included on the transcribed census? Thanks so much., Jean
John McMillan may have been from Scotland Twp. and Mary McGaughey may have been from Macomb. They m. 6 Apr. 1876 and had 5 ch. Earl, Roll, Cyrus, Fredrick and Anna May. Anna May m. James Richard (Tine) Hendrix on 5 Dec. 1900. Tine owned and operated small grocery stores in the early 1900's in Industry, Colchester and Macomb. He later owned stores in Warren and Schuyler Co. the last one in Browning where he retired. I believe John and Mary McMillan lived in Cholchester after their marriage, Anna is listed as having been born there on 4 May 1878. Tine and Anna's first ch. was born in Industry 1909 and second b. in Colchester 1920. Any information on John and Mary or Tine and Anna is greatly appreciated. Tine and Anna's first ch. Erma was my mother. Second ch. was Iris. Thank you very much. All replies are appreciated. Richard W. Coursey
The McDonough County Genealogical Society's library is in a room in the Macomb Public Library. As far as I know, the Historical Society (separate group) doesn't maintain a collection outside of donations made to the Public and WIU's University Library. Info about the Genealogical Society, publications, the library, membership, a name database(13,000+ names), etc., is available on the Society web site: http://www.macomb.com/mcgs/ Society publications are available for purchase at Studio III Stitchery, 2nd floor, 133 S. Randolph (southeast corner of square near the Post Office). Jamie, I may be able to determine if the libraries have a copy of the book. How soon are you coming to Macomb? --melissa
Planning a trip to Macomb and am trying to fine tune my searches. Does anyone know of the location of books maintained by the McDonough County Historical Society? Am searching for a book by Clarence Watson. It is a history of ship's passage and travels of the WATSON and DOUGLAS families from Scotland. I am a member of the DOUGLAS clan. Also, does anyone have the name of a contact and address or phone number of the McDonough County genealogical society? I would like to find out about membership. Thank you for your assistance. Hi all, I have a picture on my website, http://people.ce.mediaone.net/backster/bridgpic.html , of the Industry Concert Band that I would probably guess was taken in the early 1900's. My great grandfather, William Newton Bridges is in the group picture and he was born in 1889. julie

Just noticed that the census year in my previous message about Orrin/Arron Ferguson was incorrect. The census info. I listed was from the 1860 census, not 1850. -- Annie Utick
I am wondering whether someone can help me sort or my Orrin/Arron Ferguson mystery. The evidence is as follows: In the 1850 McDonough Co., IL census, the William Ferguson household looks like this: William Ferguson, age 62 Ellen Ferguson, age 51 (this is Eleanor Sandusky) Henry, age 20 Isabel, age 17 Polly, age 15 Cynthia, age 12 Edward, age 10 Orin, age 7 George Dysel(?), age 51 William and Ellen/Eleanor are my 3g grandparents, and I am trying to establish whether Edward (age 10, above) and Orin (age 7, above) died before the probate of William's estate in 1873, or were children taken in from another family, who were not considered heirs. In the estate settlement, there is a listing of all of William's children, including their spouses. However, Edward and Orin are not listed. The logical conclusion would be that they had died before 1873, leaving no children to inherit in their stead. One of William's daughters predeceased him, and her children were named to inherit her share, so I am assuming that, if Edward or Orin died and left heirs, they would have been named. The problem with the theory of Orrin/Arron predeceasing his father is that I have come by information that he survived long enough to marry Rosalthea Twitchell. I have no spouse for Edward, so perhaps he did predecease his father. If someone on the MCDONOUGH CO., IL mailing list has a mortality table or cemetery book that lists either Orrin or Edward as having died before 1873, that would be most helpful in solving this mystery. Also, if someone on either of these lists happens to know that the Arron who m. Rosalthea Twitchell was NOT the son of this William Ferguson, that would be helpful information, too. Many thanks in advance for any help you can provide with this mystery. Annie (Elliott) Utick of Helena, Montana.
