Hi, Chris, According to Everton's "Handybook for Genealogists," McDonough Co.'s birth records begin with 1877, so it looks like you may not be able to obtain the 1863 birth record. However, if I were you, I'd at least call and ask. They may be able to refer you to some other local source (perhaps a church) that might have kept baptismal/birth records. The phone no. for the County Clerk's office is (309) 833-2474. Best of luck to you. A. Greetings, I am not sure I can solve your Campbell question, but I have been gathering information on McDonough Co. Campbells, both mine and other lines. I believe I do have the connection for the Campbell who married Jaggard--likely the daughter of Daniel Campbell and Susannah Goings. You can check out my Campbell web pages if you like. The one which mentions the above daughter is at: http://www.vsg.cape.com/~dougshow/fourth-site/campbell2.html Good luck, Doug Showalter Doug's Email and Web sites: minister@cape.com [Doug at Church] dougshow@cape.com [Doug at Home] 1congfal@cape.com [Church's Administrative Office] Forgiveness Forum http://www.vsg.cape.com/~dougshow/index.html The Exchange for Sermon and Worship Ideas http://www.vsg.cape.com/~dougshow/second-site/index.html First Congregational Church of Falmouth http://www.vsg.cape.com/~1congfal/index.html Barnstable Association of the United Church of Christ http://www.vsi.cape.com/~barnucc/index.html Doug's Research Pages (Genealogy) http://www.vsg.cape.com/~dougshow/fourth-site/index.html
We have a mystery concerning some Campbell children living with a Ferguson family as of the 1850 Pike Co., IL federal census. Following are the particulars: Henry FERGUSON m. Mary "Polly" BRISCOE April 8, 1816 in Washington Co., KY. Between 1835 and 1850, they moved to Pike Co., IL. In the 1850 Pike Co., IL census, they have living with them, in addition to their own children, the following Campbell children: Ann Campbell, age 15, b. KY Polly Campbell, age 12, b. IL Susan Campbell, age 10, b. IL We are wondering if these might be children of a sister of Henry FERGUSON's, who m. a CAMPBELL, possibly in KY. Can anyone help with this puzzle? We do not know who the siblings of Henry FERGUSON were, so can't name any of his sisters. We are fairly certain that these CAMPBELL children are not from Mary "Polly" BRISCOE's side of the family, because we know of her siblings, and do not have any sisters of Polly's who m. a CAMPBELL. Of course, it is possible that Polly Briscoe Ferguson had a sister we don't know of, but it is *more* likely that these CAMPBELL girls are from the FERGUSON side of the family. We have the following info. that may be about this Ann Campbell: An Ann Campbell m. a Jabez Sickler (should most likely be Sickles) in Pike Co. on Aug. 7, 1859. A Jabez Sickles is also listed in the Pike Co. m. records as marrying Welthy Ann Butler Nov. 5, 1857. An Ann Sickles is buried in Wells Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, died Sept. 1866, aged 32 years, 9 months, 17 days, wife of J. R. There is a Jabez R. Sickles, Illinois Civil War Veterans Data Base, Rank REC, 19 IL US INF, Residence Pleasant Hill. The following may be about this Susan Campbell: A Susan F. Campbell is listed in the IL Marriage Index, McDonough County (where some of the Fergusons relocated) married a Tolbert Jaggard, Feb. 14, 1859. Nothing yet about Polly Campbell, but we wonder whether she might actually have been named Mary Campbell. If anyone could shed any light on any of this, we would very much apprciate the help. A. Please walk through and browse the Cemetery. What you will find is great information ! Burial locations give great clues as to spouses and family members. What is even GREATER, is I have looked up each individual in the 1900 Blandinsville Census. You will find an email link for each individual that I found in the Census and the page number. This Census gives ADDITIONAL GREAT information. It names spouses maiden names, number of years the couple has been married, how many children they had and how many still living as of 1900. It also inlcudes the year of immigration, and if the couple was married in McDonough Co, it lists the date of their marriage, AND the License Number. I DID notice, however, that MANY MANY dates of birth do NOT match with dates of birth provided in the census. You can only use your best judgement and your own best guess as to which source you find to be correct. Please do not ask about these differences, as I have double checked, and I have typed EXACTLY as I see. Have FUN and I hope you find many missing clues to your ancestors. http://members.aol.com/Evilsizer4/GladeX.html

This is from another newspaper clipping sent to me with John Young's Bible. OBIT for Willis Young After an illness of nine months, Willis Young died at his home in Doddsville, Ill., Saturday, Dec 31, 1910 at the age of 30 years, 1 month and 15 days. The cause of death was tuberculosis. Deceased was born in Eldorado township, McDonough Co., Ill., Nov 16, 1880. He was the oldest son of James Porter, and Margaret Ann Young. His mother preceded him in death some 18 years ago. On Nov 18, 1902 he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Cook, of Oakland township, Schuyler Co., and to them were born two sons, Gurnie Farris, aged six years and Willis Verl, aged sixteen months. Deceased was highly respected, and a loving and faithful husband and father. Besides his wife and children he leaves a father, step mother, two brothers and two sisters, all living near Doddsville, Ill, and a host of NOTE: The rest of the obit was not included. I do have an abstract to post that my g'father, Edward Young wrote in a story about his life. Willis and Edward were brothers, Willis was my great-uncle. My brother, Willis, was farming the Dood's farm down by Doddsville and he asked me what I would take to work for him. I told him that Orrie was getting $25 per month and that was what I would like to have. He said OK, he would give me that and I hired out to him. Along that summer Bert Messmore came down from Macomb. He was in charge of renting the farm. He had been to see Willis who had been sick most of the summer but wanted to rent the place for another year. Mr. Messmore came out to the field where I was working and asked me if he did rent to Willis and if Willis was not able to farm, would I take over the farm and see that it was farmed. I told him I would and I worked the year through for him and shucked 80 acres of corn by myself by hand. I was going with Anna Standard all of that summer. On December 24, 1910 we were married and took over the farm for the next year of 1911. About a week after we were married, on December 31, 1910 Willis passed away from tuberculosis. ………………Submitted by….Kathleen (Stoneking) Cooper in Rantoul, IL
Hi, I am looking for some information from my Dad's family. My GGGrandfather was EP Munson who owned Stoffer and Company in Tennessee. His daughter Elnora (or Ella Nora) married William " Joe" Clark 1/1/1880 in McDonough They moved to Houston. Their Daughter Forrest Clark married my Grandfather Leonard Talley around 1906. Forrest died around 1919 as did Elnora from the flu. They are burried in Houston. Joe Clark apparently moved back to Ill. I think he lived with a sister til his death. Leonard died in 1921 leaving 5 children on the streets. For this reason, my dad never talked about his childhood. So I have very little to go on. I plan on taking a vacation to Bloomington, Il this summer and while I was up in that area, I would like to gather some family history. Locate Cemetary's and I hope a few relatives. Can anyone point me in a direction??. Thanks Julie Grooms

Obit of Mrs. Joseph Young ( from news clippings sent to me from Louis Young) Minnie May Ashwood, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Ashwood, was born April 4th 1877, and died September 3, 1923, aged forty-six years and five months. She was the eldest in a family of four children. Her father and one sister, Hattie Montooth, have precede her in death. Her school days were spent in the public schools of Ray, ILL., near which place she lived until two years ago, when, when with her family moved to Rushville. On the 8th of February 1898 she was united in marriage to Joseph Young. To this union was born one daughter, Leona. When a young girl Minnie was converted and united with the Methodist church at Ray where she was a member at the time of her death. During her life she manifested the desires of an earnest Christian. She loved the Methodist church and it's deepest spiritual and practical principles. She has long been a defender in a vigorous manner of the thorough going principles of righteousness long taught and held sacred by that church. She was much concerned with religious subjects and very diligent in her Master's service. For years she was a teacher in the Sunday School and was a very regular attendant at the services of the church. Mrs. Young has been in poor health for some time. About a year ago it became apparent that her trouble might be serious. From then on she became worse and it was found that she was suffering disease the cause and cure of which has not been discovered. At times her suffering was intense and in our loss we can be comforted in knowing she is at least in rest. She was tenderly cared for by her husband and daughter and by her mother who left her home to be a tower of strength and comfort in the home of her daughter. There remains to mourn the untimely death of this estimable woman, her loving husband, their only child, Leona, her mother, her brother Herschel Glenn Ashwood of near Adair, Ill., and her sister Mrs Nora Ritchey of near Rushville, besides many other sorrowing friends and relatives. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon Sept 5th , at the First M. E. Church, Rev. J. C. Brown officiating. Interment in the Rushville cemetery. ………..Submitted by….Kathleen (Stoneking) Cooper…..in Rantoul, IL

My GGGrandfather, Peter LELLMANN (b. 1838, Germany, d. Jan 1876, McDonough County?) is buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Tennesee Twp, along with one of his children, William O. Lellmann. I have no record of Peter until he obtained a marriage license with Amanda E. POPE in neighboring Hancock County on 12-Nov-1861. I don't know where they actually got married, but they had 4 children, all allegedly born in Colchester, in McDonough County, between 1862 and 1873. Peter died in Jan 1876, and his widow later moved to Chicago to live with a daughter and her husband. To make life more interesting, the name LELLMANN is frequently misspelled during transliterations, and Peter's gravestone is said to be badly damaged and nearly unreadable. The issue: With all of these people being born in, dying in, and possibly being married in McDonough County, I am hoping to turn up some records. I welcome recommendations for the best place to look for records from that period.
