Cindy, The street address given in the phone directory for the Industry School is 306 East South Street. It is a major crossroad intersection & will have a big sign denoting that. I'm pretty positive it would state "Vermont" to the right if you were coming from the south from Rushville. If from that direction, you will be at the very far south edge of Industry. There will be farm fields on the NE, SE & SW corners of the intersection & the school will be on the NW corner of it. Hi all, I'd like to thank Melissa for her help in discovering how to gain access to the Willey Cemetery. The cemetery is on land owned by Freeman United Coal. Since they are actively blasting the area, one must first checkin with someone at Freman United Coal Emergency Checkpoint 1. They will take you to the cemetery and you can stay as long as you need. They just need to know who is on the property for safety reasons. The hours are 7-3:30 M-Fri. Someone is also there on Saturdays. To get to the checkpoint: Go to the south end of Industry, IL on the main hwy. Go west on the street by the school (I'm trying to get more specific names for the school or street, if anyone can help) After 4 1/2 or 5 miles, at the 1st stop sign turn left Go approximately 1 1/2 -2 miles and you'll see the sign "Freeman Emergency Checkpoint 1" on the right. At this point you'll leave the paved road and go approximately 2 miles back to the building. The lady in the office Mon-Fri is Delores Beck. The phone number is 309-254-3333. I've called this number on several occasins and gotten thru, other times I get a message that it has been disconnected. Let me know if you know the name of the street by the school. Thanks, Cindy
Susan, Yes, Sciota still exists. From Macomb take Route 67 north to Route 9. Turn left on Route 9 (at the south edge of Good Hope) & follow xxxxxx miles to Sciota Road turnoff. The Northwest Unit School District high school building is at the intersection. Going north past the school, follow the county road into Sciota. Sciota is pronounced "Sye-oh-ta." I can't help with the Yeast farm question. Perhaps someone else will have information on that. This website is helpful in finding cemeteries and small-town locations: http://www.topozone.com On this version, using the "large" option at the top of map, you will be able to see Sciota, Good Hope and the top portion of Macomb all at the same time if you will scroll to the far right and down: http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=40.5608&lon=-90.7517&s=100&size=l Susan McClure wrote: > I am a descendant of Joseph Price and Elizabeth Clister Griffin who > lived in Scotia Twp/Good Hope Post Office from about 1864-1870. I am a descendant of Joseph Price and Elizabeth Clister Griffin who lived in Scotia Twp/Good Hope Post Office from about 1864-1870. Joseph's sister, Nancy Griffin married John L. Yeast and they bought a farm on Section 13 of Scotia Twp. in the Spring 1868. The Yeasts were still living in Scotia in 1882 (according to the History of Scotia on the web site). My daughter and I are driving to the midwest this summer from California and plan to go through towns our ancestors were from. I found Macomb on a AAA map, but does Scotia still exist? Would someone familiar with the area provide directions as to which road one would take to go through Scotia and where the Yeast farm might have been. Thank you, Susan McClure

Where are these cemeteries located in McDonough Co? (I'd like to photograph tombstones there next month) Willey Old Macomb Thanks, Cindy
Just curious - do you have a Plainey Wiley (Willey?) in your family (so named because he was born while the family was crossing the plains). A story handed down in our family mentions him, but my mother didn't know if he was a neighbor or relative of the Harrisons. Hi, We're planning to visit McDonough, Fulton,Schuyler, Fulton, and possibly Warren Co. the week of June 17-23 and would appreciate some recommendations about where to stay. Can anyone tell me the hours for the courthouse and suggestions for research there? When in McDonough Co., where might I purchase the publications the Genealogy Society has for sale? Are these publications available for viewing at the Macomb library??? Are there publications available for the Willey and Old(?) Macomb cemeteries? I'm needing to visit these three cemeteries, but have no idea how large they are or where the people I'm looking for may be buried. Any other suggestions would be most appreciated. I'm very excited to finally visit the area that I've researched off and on for several years. The McDonough Co. families of the greatest interest to me are the STUFFLEBEAMs and WiILLEYs. Thanks so much for your time. Cindy Foster
I have been looking for my great grandmother for some time. The other day I discovered a record of Marriage for Elizabeth Johns to John Lindenmeier in McDonough Co. Il in 1861. My grandfather John Lindenmeier was born in McDonough Co. or Quincy, Adams Co. Il in 1861-1864 and his father, John, remarried in Mc Donough Co. Il in 1865. I would like to find out more about Elizabeth and her family. Particularly if she past away in 1861-64 and who her parents and siblings were etc., I do not see what I need in the 1860 Census. Does anyone have any suggestions for this research? Hello Listers, I am new to the list so thought I would throw this out and see if anyone can connect to it. John Patrick Colvin born July 15, 1884 in McDONALD Co. Illinois. Parents were Elijah Colvin and Ruth Keeling. This information gleaned from a marriage certificate between John and Mary Ethel May Robertson born February 2, 1897 in Staffordshire, England. They were married in Kamloops B. C., Canada on March 24, 1912. Witnesses were Bathiah Robertson mother of the bride and Thomas Hardin(g) Colvin brother of the groom. The marriage was performed in the home of Bathiah Robertson. If anyone has anything and I mean anything to add to this family PLEASE contact me at lilgram@gateway.net I am the granddaughter of both of them but at the moment I am searching the COLVIN line. I understand that John had a lot of brothers and sisters among them Thomas the oldest and William, Ryer, Manual, Martha, twins named Maude and Daude (these were their NICK names) George,Inez (she was kicked to death by the wicked Stepmother or so the story goes) there were at least 13 kids in this family. There is really a juicy story that goes with the children leaving HOME. If you connect I'll tell you all about it. But only if you connect. Maybe you have some good ones for me too. Best of regards Lynda Saxton In Spokane, Washington
