For information on Kelly Wagle's life, check out the following book: "The Bootlegger: A Story of Small-Town America" by John E. Hallwas. It was done by University of Illinois Press in 1998. The writer is a professor at WIU who likes history and it is well done. We bought the book for my mother-in-law to read some time ago as she grew up not far from Colchester during the time that Mr. Wagle was alive. She enjoyed it very much. She confirmed that the tale it told matched what she knew. Sandra Haney Williams
Does anyone have any information pertaining to Kelly Wagle -- the bootlegger who was murdered in Colchester. Did he have a daughter named Pauline? Did he have a wife named Beulah? Did he murder his wife? Ron . . http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=bryant http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bryant/
Message text written by INTERNET:ILMCDONO-L@rootsweb.com >I found that you can do a search on McDonough and view all McDonough County records that were saved......there are 805.< You can simplfy your search for particular surnames by typing mcdonough then a space then a surname and get only the surnames for McDonough Co. (or any other county that is in the partial 1890 census). e.g. mcdonough kimball. The search enging does not care about upper or lower case. Chuck
Re: Fragments of the 1890 Census. http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/5445.htm I found that you can do a search on McDonough and view all McDonough County records that were saved......there are 805. Pat Murphy
Ancestry.com has a new database available for free til Mar 4th. Fragments of the 1890 Census. I put in the surname of Smith, just to see what comes up, and there were entries for McDonough County. http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/5445.htm Happy (limited) hunting, Cathy

Dear List: Is there anyone familiar with the photo of John Martin Wilson and Martha Ramsey Vance? It is in one of the McDonough County History books. Recently, I came in contact with a cousin here in California and she has the same photo However the names on it are Christopher C. Wilson and Elizabeth Reno. Or perhaps someone out here has other photo's that could help identify and confirm the couple in the photo. I appreciate any thought on the subject. Sincerely, Cathleen
My g-grandfather Edwin Moore Kimball was taken to raise by foster parents (Abraham Powers) between 1841 and 1850. Family tradition says it happened when either his mother or both parents died. Edwin is shown with the Powers in both the 1850 and 1860 census (age 9 and 19). I am hoping that some guardianship records might exist to cover that circumstance. This might have been recorded in either McDonough or Fulton Co. Can anyone tell me where and how I might look to see if there are such papers? You can either reply thru this mail list or at 76516.2365@CompuServe.com. Thanks, Chuck Kimball
NANCY JANE ROBERTSON and NATHAN C. STEVENS were married in McDonough County Feb of 1844. From the permission given by their fathers, Nancy's father was WILLIAM ROBERTSON, and Nathan's father was JACOB STEVENS. I'm looking for info about these two families. Thanks Richard O'Neal
Is there anyone who could check the 1910 McDonough County census for me? The people that I am looking for are John and Nancy Fentem (or Fenton). John would have been about 61 years old. Kathy Lathrop

WILLIS, BOYD, GIBSON, SANFORD Hello, Im new to the list. and havent written yet. Need the name of the father of John William Willis( who married Martha Ellen Mauk in Hancock co.in 1855.) Martha d/o of Ambrose Mauk from Page Co. Va. They are in Hancock Co. Census for 1860, 1870 and 1880, They came to Allen Co., Kansas in 1886. Some Mauks also came to Kansas. John William Willis was born 23 Nov 1832 in Kentucky(County unknown), died 28 May Iola, Kans. His father died when he was young & mother remarried,in what state or to whom unknown. Have developed a working theory that they were in McDonough Co prior to Hancock CO. Recently found a Willis in McDonough Co.that may be his mother. Need proof of her first husbands given name. A Nancy Willis was head of household in 1840 McDonough Co, married Robert Boyd in 1841 and is listed as a head again in 1850. A Mrs. Nancy BOYD married in 1854 John GIBSON. 1860 census lists John and Nancy with children Sarah GIBSON, Allen BOYD, Aquilla BOYD. Allen BOYD is living with John William Willis in 1870 Census for Hancock Co. Problem: The 1850 McDonough Census lists all the children of Nancy BOYD as last name BOYD. Lists two John W.BOYDS age 18 which would be the right age for John Willis WILLIS. Also listed are two children with name JACKSON, (Grandchildren?) One child is listed as P.& E. H. Boyd to add further confusion. Perhaps this is why I've never been able to find John William Willis on 1850 Census. Believe John William Willis had a full sister Priscilla Elizabeth Willis who married Joseph SANFORD 25 June 1854 McDonough Co. Ill. The next I find them is in Mahuska Co. Ia in 1870. Any clues to the given name of John William WILLIS will be appreciated. Nancy J. Willis
Interestingly enough, it is now back with the person who started it in the beginning and the first Illinois State Coordinator. I did little more than keep it alive until Robin asked to do it and she did a fine job. I'm sure Melissa (outfitter) Calhoun will keep it up as well as she did in the beginning. daVe Leininger (Always trying to keep up with Marshall and Putnam counties) Robin Petersen wrote: > > Hi everyone! > > Since putting the McDonough Co.
