    1. [ILMCDONO] Burnett/Millington 1846> Bushnell
    2. Linda Garrett
    3. Just subscribed and want to see if anyone can help with this family. I found John Burnett family listed living in McDonough Co. on 1860 census. His wife is Caroline and they are from VT. I have been told Caroline's maiden name was Millington and am pursuing this investigation. John was born 1809, s/o John Burnet and Lucy Bennet in Shaftsbury, Bennington Co, VT. I have yet to find where he died, but was told another researcher had in her old family notes it was July 7, 1870. Caroline moves to Rantoul, Franklin Co, KS with her married children and died there on Dec. 30, 1884. She is buried in the Ruhama Cemetery. One of their daughters, listed in the IL marriage list as Eliza Burnett married Jerome Millington on Jan. 23, 1867 in Piatt Co, IL. I just got a bio on this line from Franklin Co, KS library in Ottawa. Eliza must have been a pet name as her given name was Louisa Maria Burnett and it said she was born on May 5, 1846 in Bushnell, IL. This Jerome Millington was really named Johnia German Millington and he was the s/o Norman and Sally Millington of Shaftsbury, Bennington Co, VT. They moved to Rantoul, KS just after the Civil War. I know her brother, George W. Burnett lived in Piatt Co. as his daughter, Clarissa Jane Burnett was born there in 1855. She was my g-grandmother. Somewhere along the line the name Burnet added a "t" to the end making it Burnett. I'm wondering if there are any records of John Burnet - one "t" in McDonough Co. during this time period other than the 1860 census. There were two other marriages of Burnett children to Millingtons. Daniel Burnett married Sarah Millington in McDonough Co. on March 21, 1861 Sheppard Burnett married Ellen Millington in Piatt Co. on Dec. 20, 1866. I saw that there was a Solomon Millington who moved to McDonough Co. from Rutland Co, VT and wonder if Sarah and Ellen might have been his children. Also if he might have been a brother to Caroline Millington who married John Burnet. Hope someone might have something that can add to what I have. Thanks, Linda Garrett Livermore, CA

    3. Hi Cindy, I am also of the Absalom Willey line. I went to school with Wonet that started the fires at the Charles Willey farm--so I remember the episode very well. Wonet and her brother were living in the home of Charles and Lulu (known as Lu). This Charles Willey was the great grandson of Absalom. Charles' father was David Willey and his mother was Sarah Elizabeth Griffith.

    1. [ILMCDONO] Poltergeist in McDonough Co - Aug1948-WILLEY, MCNEIL, STONEKING, JOHNSON
    2. Cindy Foster
    3. August 1948 - A series of 80-100 unexplained fires broke out on the farm owned by Charles WILLEY in Bethel Twp. The Macomb Daily Journal carried articles nearly every day. I'm a descendant of Absolam and Rachel LEMLEY WILLEY and am trying to determine how Charles is related to Absolam. One newspaper report sites his brother as Obie WILLEY and his wife's brother as Arthur MCNEIL, Sr. Can anyone fill me in on Charles and the identity of his wife? The articles (found at IRAD at Western IL U) are outlined as follows: 7 Aug -The first fire was found burning in the woodbox beside the stove in the kitchen by Mrs. Willey 11 Aug-brown spots began to appear on the wall paper throughout the house. They would break into flames that the Willeys and their neighbors would help put out -with as little as a cup of water. 12 Aug- Willeys and their neighbors began ripping wallpaper off the walls thinking the paper might be the cause, but fire broke out in the lathes in the plaster. The furniture and other valuables were removed from the house. Walter STONEKING, a neighbor, reported that he put a lace curtain across the foot of a bed and returned to find it in ashes. 13 Aug-the Willey home burned to the ground 15 Aug-While the Willeys were milking the barn their house burst into flames and quickly burned to the ground. 18 Aug- fires broke out in the paper which had been used to line the milk house which the family was using as a dining room 19 Aug- basket of papers in the chicken house and papers on pantry shelves in the milk house burned. Later that afternoon the second barn burned to the ground in 18 minutes. 20 Aug - the state fire marshal'sl office was asking that experts examine the Willey farm. Rumors began that the Army was going to test for radio activity, high frequency radio waves and foreign sabotage. 30 Aug - the culprit was discovered - 13-year-old Wonet McNeil, the Willey's niece and Arthur McNeil's daughter. Wonet, her 8 year old brother Arthur and their father were living with the Willeys, since their parents divorce. Wonet set the fires hoping she would be returned to the custody of her mother. Sept 1948 custody of Wonet was given to her maternal grandmother Mrs. John JOHNSON of Marseilles, IL. What ever happened to Wonet?? Cindy Foster researching: Willey, Stoneking, Frakes, Stokes in McDonough Co., IL P.S. I'll be gone for a week of vacation, but will be excited to learn more about this line of the Willey family.

    3. Does anyone know of the existence of a photo of the Union Regular (Primitive) Baptist Church which was located in Middletown (Fandon)? If so, I would be very interested in obtaining a copy. I realize the frame building was later moved and used as a residence. I have a picture of it taken a few years ago (not in good condition). 2. Bev, There are Hall listings in at least Vol XVI & Vol XVII of the cemetery books in a search at this page: http://www.macomb.com/mcgs/data/ I find several small cemeteries listed as Walnut Grove area at this web page. I don't have copies of the volumes, though. It helps narrow your search, possibly. http://www.macomb.com/mcgs/cemeteries/ It snowed here in McDonough Co IL a little bit yesterday. 1. [ILMCDONO] Prairie City cemeteries
    2. Does anyone have a list of tombstone inscriptions for any cemeteries in the Prairie City or Walnut Grove area? I just found that my gggrandfather, Leonard HALL lived in Prairie City toward the end of his life. I know he's not buried in Warren county, where he owned land and lived for some time, nor is he buried in Avon when his children and grandchildren are buried. So, he must be here, right?;-) My great aunt talked about going to the Walnut Grove reunion, so that may be a clue, too. Thanks for any help. Bev - in Minnesota, where winter is never going to end!

    3. Hello Blandinsville Researchers-- Am hoping someone can help--below is the 'header' for a website that lists who's buried in the Glade City Cemetery, North Cemetery, in Blandinsville--my computer crashed, and I CANNOT find it again!! There is a "Comment" section that cross-references the person buried to other records from McDonough Co, ie, for Charles E BALLOU, there is a reference to "Civil War, 2nd ILL Cav, Co 'H'"/Ask for Census Info pg 46"--quite an awesome feature!! I have searched the McDonough Co GenWeb sites, and can't locate it. I know I'm doing something wrong!! If anyone can guide me to the right site, I will be forever grateful! Thanx in advance... Jan WELCOME TO THE GLADE CITY CEMETERY, BLANDINSVILLE, MCDONOUGH, ILLINOIS Please walk through and browse the Cemetery. What you will find is great information! Burial locations give great clues as to spouses and family members. What is even GREATER, is I have looked up each individual in the 1900 Blandinsville Census. You will find an email link for each individual that I found in the Census and the page number. This Census gives ADDITIONAL GREAT information. It names spouses maiden names, number of years the couple has been married, how many children they had and how many still living as of 1900. It also inlcudes the year of immigration, and if the couple was married in McDonough Co, it lists the date of their marriage, AND the License Number. I DID notice, however, that MANY MANY dates of birth do NOT match with dates of birth provided in the census. You can only use your best judgement and your own best guess as to which source you find to be correct. Please do not ask about these differences, as I have double checked, and I have typed EXACTLY as I see. Have FUN and I hope you find many missing clues to your ancestors.

    1. [ILMCDONO] KY>IL Fergusons
    2. Andy or Annie Utick
    3. I have three Ferguson men, all about the right age to be brothers or at least first cousins, who moved from KY to IL in the early 1800's. Two of these men were married in Washington Co., KY. Two of the three also married Sandusky women, who were first cousins to eachother. I am trying to establish how these Ferguson men were related to each other. They are: 1) William Ferguson, (my 3g grandfather) b. 2/6/1798 in KY, who m. Eleanor (a/k/a Ellen) Sandusky 9/14/1826 in Washington Co., KY. These two moved to McDonough Co., IL, where the first of their 12 children was b. in 1828. Another researcher has established that Wm.'s parents were likely Wm. and Rebecca (Thompson) Ferguson. 2) Henry Ferguson, b. 11/21/1794 in KY, who m. Mary "Polly" Briscoe on 4/8/1816 in Washington Co., KY. These two moved to Pike Co., IL (which is right next to McDonough Co.), where the first of their 4 children was b. in 1818. An additional link between the families of Wm. and Henry: Henry's wife, Polly Briscoe, had a brother, Ira, who had two sons who m. daughters of Wm. and Eleanor (Sandusky) Ferguson. 3) Benjamin Ferguson, b. 5/7/1802, who m. Susan Sandusky (first cousin of Eleanor/Ellen who m. Wm. Ferguson) on 12/6/1820 in Morgan Co., IL. If anyone has any information that would help to establish what the family links were among these three Ferguson men, I'd love to hear from you. Many thanks in advance. -- A.
