My mother is in possession of a birth/baptism certificate from 1867. It is written in German. She found it in her mother's (Magdalene COLLIE WELLS) cedar chest, but we are not related to the family at all. She would like to see it back in the hands of family members. Here is a rough translation of the document. "Let The Little Children Come Unto Me" To the married couple: Hermann Mittendorp and his legal wife Charlotte nee Grushuster was born, on March 28 1867, a daughter at Barns, Massac Co. Ills and was baptized on June 16, 1867 by Pastor G. Fikenscher and was given the name Karoline Wilh. Friedericka. The sponsors were Johanna Friedericka Rippens, Luise Mittendorp. Witnessed by Georg Fikenscher, Pastor of Ev. Luth. St. Johanes Parish of Metropolis. Note: The man who translated this said that the abbreviation Wilh. stands for Wilhemina, and that the church translates to Evangelical Lutheran Parish of St. John in Metropolis. I could be wrong, but I would assume that Mittendorp became Mittendorf. Please email me at sldlkelley@ezeeweb.com if you have any idea who these people or their descendants are. Ideally, we would like to see the document go to a descendant of Karoline. If this is not possible, if there are any descendants of Hermann and Charlotte or someone who can prove a relation to any of them, they should have the document. Also, if anyone has any clue as to why my grandmother may have had this, I would be thrilled to hear it. Grandma has Alzheimer's, so she is long past being able to tell us herself. Thanks! Susan
