G'Day Folks, Thank you to those who used "Most Wanted" in place of "Roll Call". I really do appreciate it. In my request, I did not mention that I receive upwards of 100 e-mails per day and the subject line matters. This means I sort by what is in the subject line. I can miss for days on end and sometimes weeks something which you might think very important. Also, due the amount of SPAM and virus attachments that comes with my e-mail addy out there in hundreds of places, I might miss something important by exercising my "delete" finger zealously. This brings me to the main purpose for posting this letter as List Admin. As the Site Manager for the Massac County ILGenWeb Project, I will be maintaining the RootsWeb GenConnect Boards, but also I will be maintaining more traditional query and surname list files. As I add these two files [sets of pages] there are some things you need to know. Anyone's addy which will be posted on these sites will have blank spaces before and after the "@". This will prevent the individual's addy from being harvested by "spiders" [the addy gathering programs used by search engines]. Therefore, in order to contact the folks who are willing to have their addy's "out front" you will have to hand-type [don't you love that term: hand-type"?] the e-mail address for it to work. In other words, they will not be "hot-linked". For this Site Manager to put up queries and surnames, it is necessary to have a Massac county connection, plus a valid full name [first and last] and e-mail address. People, as a general rule, will not respond to "handles", nicknames, and cryptics. While I have your attention, let me announce that notices and warnings about virus attach and attachments is OFF topic, with near zero tolerance. My experience on other lists is that this topic stimulates much discussion which detracts from our goals and purposes -- which is genealogy and heritage. Should you feel that such a notice is necessary, please request that the List Admin put out a notice. If I think it is warranted, I will put out a one time announcement. The list administrator's addy is: <ILMASSAC-ADMIN@rootsweb.com> The Welcome Message which comes with subscribing to the ilmassac list will be revised to reflect these things, but for the moment I'm swamped with creating new pages, answering e-mails for six other county sites, sitting on the Advisory Board for the USGenWeb Project, creating on-line books, and a local county project of old postcards on CD to celebrate Ohio's 200 years anniversary in year 2003. This is not an excuse, but rather an explanation. The Massac County ILGenWeb Project front page has been altered to include active links to surname and query pages. The Query page is only a skeleton because I don't have the query express coding finish. Maybe in a couple of days. This list has been doing great with "Most Wanted" posts. It would be nice if all those surnames could be added to the new surname page. If you are willing to write me [privately] to give me permission to add your name, addy, and surnames to that site page I'd love to do it. Again, you have proven your netiquette and it shows. Thank you. :) Most Sincerely, Bill Oliver List Admin, ILMASSAC-L -=-
