Other Surnames: GIBBS, JEFFORDS, RISINGER, ROBERTS, The following is extracted from Probate File # 1864-P-022, Massac Co. on my ancestor. Daniel R. (RISINGER) Pryor notified the Probate Court that Daniel F. Pryor of Massac Co. had died 28 December 1863, that his estate was probably worth $350, no widow survived him, and the heirs were his children Mary S. Pryor, Anson G. (GIBBS) Pryor, Robert M. (Morgan) Pryor, John M. (Morgan) Pryor, Thomas L. (Lewis) Pryor, Francis M.E. (Marion English) Pryor, Daniel R. (RISINGER) Pryor, Samuel Pryor and Martha BARNETT. The Administrator's Bond for $700 was issued to Daniel R. Pryor and John ROBERTS of Massac Co. The list of personal property sold included hogs, corn, molasses, plows, furniture, a grindstone, a kettle and washtub, a pair of glasses, a hymn book, a History of the U.S. book, 5 lots of school books, and many carpenters' tools. The sale brought about $950 and many items were purchased by family members. The Probate File included copies of two notes D. F. Pryor had signed, one to Robert MORRIS for 12 months for $258.90 dated 20 Oct 1859, and one to John F. STEWART for $59.00 dated at New Liberty Sept 8, 1858, due in 20 days. There are 5 receipts signed by A. GIBBS, agent for R. MORRIS, for monies paid by Daniel R. Pryor to Ezra JEFFORDS and GIBBS for debts of the deceased. Receipt signed by K.T. LEEPER, for $1.00 paid by Daniel R. Pryor for crying the sale. Recept signed by J.A. SHEARER for Wm GOOD for $8 for coffin, and a receipt signed by J.A. SHEARER for $6.75 for burial apparrel. The Administrator, his son, got into a little trouble with Probate Court for not accounting promptly on the Estate. He promised to do better, and the Bond was increased to $900.00, signed by Daniel R. Pryor, John ROBERTS, Jr., and Ezra JEFFORDS. All the surnames at the top of this message married into the Pryor family. Daniel Farley Pryor was born in VA in 1799 (probably Amelia County). His father was John A. Pryor and his mother was probably Martha VAUGHN. His father served in Revolutionary War and moved the family to KY about 1790, settling in Louisville. Many of John A. Pryor's children moved to Massac, Pope & Johnson starting about 1813. Probate files are a wonderful source of information not only on the family, but also their possessions tell a story also.
