I am not positive, but I don't think there was a Fort Massack township since Massac County was formed in 1843. Yes, Massac Co was formed from Johnson and Pope counties at that time. Illinois did not become a state till 1818. And you can find a listing for Fort Massaic District in records of the Indiana Territory where it list those residing in that District. Also, in 1809 when the last change in counties was made before your mentioned date of 1810, there were 2 counties for Illinois Territory and they were St. Clair County which was from mid-southern Illinois to the north and Randolph County which included all of southern Illinois. In 1812, the county lines were changed again and several counties added. At that time what is now Massac County was completely included in what was then Johnson County. The same for the changes made in 1813 and 1815. But in 1816, what is now Massac County was divided in half into Johnson and Pope Counties. This line held true till Massac County was formed from Johnson and Pope in 1843. I took this info from the free handout from the office of Illinois Secretary of State called "Origin and Evolution and Illinois Counties". This is a good little book that explains the forming of the Illinois counties in detail. I hope I have gotten the info correct here with the dates.
