    3. Nova: The only name I can come with in the book is King H. DETTERLINE, from Pope County. He was a Private in Company "A", 6th Illinois Cavalry. The book covers an event lasting 16 days in 1863. Both of the Regiments has full rosters but they are not indexed and hard to read unless you have a County Name. Good luck in your research. 2. Deb DiSalvo, First I have to ask if I read that name correctly? If so my name is Donna DiSalvo, what a small world, if not sorry for the mistake. I am not sure if it was my offer you referred to or not, but here is what I found in the book on your Kings William King, private, sixth Illinois Calvary, Company G from Golconda (this would be Pope County IL same county as our grandfather) George King, private, sixth Illinois Calvary, Company M from Tamaroa (not sure what county that is) That is all I see for now. If I find more I will let you know. Please if you are working on you DiSalvo line, that is if I read the name on your email correctly, email me at tink110392@aol.com we may have a line in common. 1. [ILMASSAC] Butternut Guerillas Lookup Please-Kings
    2. Thanks for the kind offers of lookups from this book. I am searching for a James henry King that was married to a Matilda Ann Berry. They had children in Massac Co., IL and Livingston Co., KY. I realize there are many James H. Kings from Massac and Pope Counties, so please just ignore this request if you encounter a great number of them in the book. My James H. was born in 1848-1850, son of John King and Lucinda ?, so he may have been too young to have served in the Civil War. But, because this line has been so difficult, I try to check every possibility that arises. Any help will be extremely appreciated. Deb Disalvo

    3. Hello: I recently ordered and have just received a book written by Larry D. Underwood, titled "THE BUTTERNUT GUERILLAS" based on information I received from a very nice lady. The book depicts a raid during the Civil War down into the heart of Mississippi by the 6th & 7th Illinois Cavalry Regiments. It has a full roster of each regiment in it. The 6th was made up mainly of men from Pope and Massac counties, with some from Johnson County. My ggrandfather and his brother are listed with the 6th. Also a Sgt with the 6th is a Thomas SPENCER. I also believe the movie "Horse Soldiers" starring John Wayne and William Holden depicted this same raid. The book can be ordered from Dageforde Publishing, 122 S. 29th St., Lincoln, NE 68510-1403 for $14.95 plus $4.00 S&H. If anyone would like a lookup in the book I would be glad to do so. Kenneth R.
