Norma Jean, I am sorry if I haven't given you a response. I am almost certain that I had. I have been using a couple of different computers between home and work. Maybe that is why you haven't had a response. I really appreciate your taking the time to respond. In a previous e-mail you may remember that I tried to link John Henry Obermark and Carrie Maedeker to the John Frederick and Carrie Justiene Obermark of Fredrick Wilhelm and Hanna (Anna) Obermark. I don't have birth dates of these two but since Fredrick and Hanna were married in 1854, the birth dates for your John and Carrie (1856 and 1861) caught my attention. Basically, I thought the Carrie's surname in your posting was her married name and not her birth name as I now understand it to be. I recently received copies of Fredrick William Obermark's probate papers which lists John Frederick and Carrie Justiene Obermark as minor heirs. Fredrick C. Obermark is listed as Administrator of the Estate and heirs listed each receiving $109.74 are Hanna W. Obermark, John Henry Obermark, F.W. Obermark of Massac County and two shares of $109.74 to A.G.Cheney, the guardian of minors John Frederick and Carrie Justiene Obermark. It seems there were two Frederick William Obermarks since I have a photocopy of a February 20, 1868 receipt which states in longhand: Metropolis Massac County February 20th 1868 Received of F.C. Obermark Admn of F.W.Obermark, deceased one Hundred and Nine Dollars and Seventy four cts it being my interest in said Estate as one of the Heirs F.W. Obermark I checked the FamilySearch web site for Obermark and found that almost everyone listed came from the Hereford, Heepen, Schildesche, Bielefeld area of the state of Westphalia. While I am trying to pull the Obermark part of my tree together, my overall objective at the moment is to place the Shappard/Shubehart/Schaphard family in Germany. If my assumption that they came from the area listed above given the fact that most immigrants settled with friends and family from the old country. Please correct me if I am wrong. Let's keep in touch. Hopefully, I can make a trip down to the area from Chicago sometime this spring. Trips through cemetaries are always nicer with some green around whether weeds or flowers! Can anyone tell me the cost of obtaining copies of marriage records in Massac County. I have gotten some from Saline County and know the cost is only $2.00 per license, and now need to order some from Massac county. Thanks in advance for your help. Nancy in Iowa Searching: Arrowood, Barrett, Carter, McNeeley, Myers, Spencer --plus a few others States involved are mainly: Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, North Carolina -- plus a few others.
Bee, I thank you very much for your offer, but at this time I have not found that any of my Grimes went to Florida. The ones that I can find have seemed to moved out west. Thank again Kim
Hi John, Could you please look up the surname of Code (Coad), Robert, and McGhee or McGee (Jasper) in your Massac County Cemetery Book. Thank you for your time. Kim, Go here, http://www2.sos.state.il.us/cgi-bin/marriage put the surname (Groom or Bride) in the name box, click on Massac Co. in the drop down window, and you'll find them, plus instrucitons for obtaining a copy of the license. Dear Kim, I am butting in, but I know of some Grimes from Lakeland, Polk County, Florida. I have no idea if they could be related, but I will be happy to research a little more if you are interested. Kim: Have not had time to get into the Grimes line. As there were no children born of this marriage I have sort of put it on the back burner. Am in the big middle of trying to find parents for my G'Granpa Gotcher who I found as an orphan in NE Miss. in 1860. If I do find anything I will let you know. Clyde Gotcher - Hermann MO Raking the leaves under my family tree.
Kim: Cannot help you re: the marriage lookup but am very interested in your Mary Grimes. Do you have any approx. ages? My G'Grandpa in Pope Co IL, in 1890, married one Mary Walker. Her maiden name is given as Grimes. It was the seventh marriage for G'Grandpa and the fourth marriage for Mary . License says that she would be 33 her next birthday. Her parents were Wm. Grimes and Margaret McCo?? I am trying to determine what happened to all of Samuel's (Samuel Webber, my G'Grandpa) wives. There are only two of them that the end's are known. FYI Clyde Gotcher - Hermann MO Raking the leaves under my family tree.

Clyde, I know of your Grimes family (Wm. & Margaret). Still wonder if somehow they are related to my Grimes. My Grimes lived in McCracken Co. KY. and sometimes in Massac Co. IL.. This Mary E. Grimes that I am looking for, I believe is the daughter of James A. Grimes and Mary Ettie Graham. Thats why I'm trying to find the marriage record to prove my theory correct. Have you ever been able to find out who Wm. Grimes parents are? Kim
Can anyone look up a marriage record for me? Mary E. Grimes married Stephen J. Ogilvie Dec. 29, 1899 in Massac Co., wondering if their parents names are listed and what other info. there might be. Kim

How about Knowlton? Are there any Knowltons? Thanks. The URL for the Massac County Genealogical Society is correct. The email address for Deena is deena@hcis.net not heic.net The membership prices are correct, but where it says one newsletter per year, that should be one newsletter per household for the family membership rate. You get a MONTHLY newsletter of 14-20 pages, each and every month. Full of articles from newspapers, courthouse finds, submitted from members, ancestor charts, queries, etc. This newsletter is one of the best I receive, full of information. And the address for MCGS is: Massac Co Genealogical Soc P.O. Box 1043 Metropolis, IL 62960-1043 (not 629688) -----Original Message----- From: Eve <rethanss@ekucolonel.com> To: ILMASSAC-L@rootsweb.com <ILMASSAC-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, March 08, 2000 10:58 AM Subject: Re: [ILMASSAC] Massac Co.
