It is generally more helpful when everyone answers each other's research questions on the list. Often several folks, some who might be too shy to post, are looking forward to the answer. A person searching the list archives will also be able to see the answer. It is quite frustrating to find your question and then no answer. Personal responses or responses which contain personal information -- addresses, phone numbers, information about living people in general -- should be done privately.
