    3. Judy, The cemeteries in Manito are Oak Grove and Meadow Lawn. I checked the indexes for both, but did not find your Samuel. There were a lot of Woodley listings in Meadow Lawn, but all of them were born after 1854, The only Samuel listed shows 1854-1932. Oak Grove had two Woodings, Caroline (1848-19180 and C.W. (no dates). I checked the rest of the Volume I but did not find him. I have several family lines in Mason Co. and have found that a lot of the men were not found in the listings. The were often buried on the land they owned with no headstone, or never marked. Kathy G. ----- Original Message ----- From: Judy Lowery Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2001 1:10 AM To: ILMASON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ILMASON] cemetery books Would anyone have access to the Oaklawn Cemetery and/or Meadow Lane Cemetery in Manito? I am looking for the date of death on Samuel Woodling or Woodley. He was born 9/19/1820 and lived in Manito and he may have died around 1912. Some of his family is buried in both of these cemeteries. 3. >From the research that you've done I would assume that you know that there is a Hessen mailing list on Rootsweb.com. I've had great success on the mailing lists. Also, are you aware that there is a lot of information at the Tazwell County Genealogical Society which has a web site? They have printed cemetery records for the county for sale and I know that they cover Green Hill even though it isn't in Tazwell County. You could also check at the Peoria Genealogical Society. Tazwell and Peoria both have people who will do reasearch for a small fee. I checked the Emden Centennial and 125th year update and the Hartsburg Centennial books for you and didn't find your names. The Pekin Centennial book isn't alphabetized but I didn't see your names at first glance. However------from the book Prelude to Progress; The History of Mason County, Illinois, 1818 to 1968 by Ruth Wallace Lynn I find on page 60, second column: In 1936 Fred W. Jacobs opened and operated the San Jose Exchange until 1944; at that time the building and business were sold to the newly organized San Jose Tri-County Bank. Officers were: Henry Worner, chairman; W G Kelly, president, Fred Zimmerman, Marvin Yontz, Earl Weber, Henry Worner, W G Kelly, Robert Woll and Henry Gruensfelder, directors. The reason your letter caught my eye is that my ancestors were in the San Jose/Pekin area at the same time as yours and some are buried in Green Hill. Chances are that they knew each other. 1. [ILMASON] ANDRES, Casper born 1832 Germany lived around Pekin
    2. Casper Andres was born in Grostaubein, Kreis Hannon, Hessen, Germany (Feb. 29, 1832) and came to America around the early 1850's along with his brother Henry and sister Regina. We do not know if anyone else accompanied them. Supposedly they docked in Newark, NJ. And around 1854 Casper arrived in San Jose, IL where he met Anna Marie Gruensfelder and married in 1860 in Mason county. They had 6 children (Agnes Anna, John Lawrence, Carl Heinrich, Jacob Veslie, Lizzie K, and Philip Louis)all born in Pekin, IL. Anna Marie died (1875) as well as Carl Heinrich (1876) and both are buried next to Anna Marie's parents, John & Katherine (Weisbrodt) Gruensfelder at Green Hill cemetary just outside San Jose, IL in Logan county. I've received some help from the gracious Adolph family in Illinois who are the great-great grandchildren of John & Katherine Gruensfelder, but I've still got several "blanks" to fill in as I trace my way back into Germany (Casper's home). After Anna Marie's and ! Carl's deaths, Casper and the rest of the children (except Jacob) traveled to Kansas to homestead and arrived prior to Dec. 19, 1881(first recorded land purchase by Casper on record). Jacob (a young boy of 7 y/o) stayed behind in Illinois for a periiod of time with his Gruensfelder grandparents (no one knows why). Eventually Jacob traveled to Kansas (via Waco, NE - meets his wife, marries, has children), then settled in the same area with his father Casper prior to Nov. 23, 1900 (first recorded land purchase by Jacob on record). Casper and all his children (including Jacob) are buried at Prairie View Cemetary just southeast of Alta Vista, Kansas. My reasoning for giving all these clues and such detail is in hopes of locating descendents of Casper's brother (Henry) and his sister (Regina). We never knew what became of them, nor do we know anything of their parents or the rest of the familiy back in Germany. We do not know Casper's parent's names nor any of the other brothers! or sisters in Germany. Anyone out there related to Casper, Henry or Regina? Any suggestions or help would be very much appreciated. Respond here or contact me by email at r_jazzman@yahoo.com

Mike Hodge is her cousin so he must be the son of one of Jessie's daughters. She was able to give me more information on the descendents of Jessie. See the following e-mail. I still have not found out where in California they all live. It would be nice to know where Lottie is since she may be able to give some recollections of Grandpa William Henry and possibly even his mother Grandma Catherine Daniels since she died in 1920. Interesting! It would be nice also to know if she had any contact with any of William Henry's siblings. Lots of Questions. Teri Subj: GoodMorning Terri Howdy...Today am going to try to send you some pictures. It might take me a while but bear with me. First off though..Jessie May Conklin, is your Grandfather Merle Dean Conklin's sister, and my Grandmother. She married Charles Everett Trailor in Visalia Calif. on 28th day of June in 1909. They had three children..John Charles..Dorthy and Lottie. John married my Mom Patricia Joan Bailey and they produced three children..Jimmy Craig, John Charles, and me Suzette Renee'. My Dad passed away when we were very young and the family split up. So I know very little about our history. All my Grandparents are gone..Aunts Uncles. And I still have to get up to see Lottie. They live up in the Mountains around here. Mike says her memory is very clear and she just had a birthday. She is now 90 years old. Hopefully I will get the chance before to long to visit with her and gain some more knowledge about our family, and get to know my Aunt again. I have some really great pictures of Jessie, Lottie, Dorthy, and Dad. Mike sent me a picture of Jessie dated 1907. It is a great picture! Well anyway I hope that gives you a little more insight as to how the Trailor line comes into play. We are a hard bunch to track down. But it is so cool to know that there is a whole other world out there...So with that I will close and try to get some pic's to you. Take Care..Love your cous. Suzette. Bob/Suz ii. 3. Hello Carol. Glad you posted as I have wondered about you. I sent you some data on some of the names you are searching and copied some obits. But the message was returned because it was not a good address I guess. So I am wondering if you ever got that message. As I resent it. I might still have some of that data around here. Lyberger and Armine I believe was most of the data. Our neighbors boy and his wife adopted a baby girl a few years ago and the mother was a Lyberger, I think I am spelling the name right. The mother was young and the baby was put up at birth. I believe the mother was from Canton, Il. She is a cute little thing. They were so happy with that baby they named her Joy. Well was glad to see you still on line. Maybe I will get your address correct this time. I have changed servers since I talked to you. But still have the Juno. Well have to go. Betty Lou Kington

    1. I am the Flag - Still the Best of the Best!
    2. Rebecca Carter
    3. Subject: I am the Flag - Still the Best of the Best! Folks, A little something to think about over the 4th of July holiday. Lt Col Still I AM THE FLAG I AM THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA I am the flag of the United States of America. My name is Old Glory. I fly atop the world's tallest buildings. I stand watch in America's halls of justice. I fly majestically over institutions of learning. I stand guard with power in the world. Look up and see me. I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice. I stand for freedom. I am confident. I am arrogant. I am proud. When I am flown with my fellow banners, my head is a little higher, my colors a little truer. I bow to no one! I am recognized all over the world. I am worshipped - I am saluted. I am loved - I am revered. I am respected - and I am feared. I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appomattox. I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, in the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy, Guam. Okinawa, Korea and KheSan, Saigon, Vietnam know me, I was there. I led my troops, I was dirty, battle worn and tired, but my soldiers cheered me. I was proud. I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free. It does not hurt, for I am invincible. I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of my country. And when it's by those whom I've served in battle - it hurts. But I shall overcome - for I am strong. I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon. I have borne silent witness to all of America's finest hours. But my finest hours are yet to come. When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battlefield, when I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldier, or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter, I am proud. MY NAME IS OLD GLORY PLEASE FORWARD MY MESSAGE TO ALL WHO STILL LOVE AND RESPECT ME, THAT I MAY FLY PROUDLY FOR ANOTHER TWO HUNDRED YEARS.
