    1. [ILMASON] Virus
    2. Cheryl Rothwell
    3. There is yet another virus, worse than last week's. I repeat, a virus can NOT go through the lists for a variety of reasons. You might get it from someone you know on the list but NOT from the list. We do not get into a discussion on viruses, how to cure them, the latest rumor, etc. on the lists. However, there is information on the following sites which may help if you are not aware of things that need to done in order to prevent a virus from infecting your PC and then all of the rest of our PC's. The "RULE" IS - if you don't have a virus checker on your PC to check email you should get one immediately. Check out these sites for a free Anti-Virus software if you do not have a commercial program installed on your personal PC. A free program is available from any of the following sites: http://www.grisoft.com/html/us_index.html http://www.antivirus.com/pc-cillin/download/ http://download.mcafee.com/eval/evaluate2.asp (Click on Virus Scan) http://security2.norton.com/ssc/home.asp?j=1&langid=us&venid=sym&plfid=22&pk j=YGTBBXUQIZQVMUYTACD (Click on Norton Anti Virus Information - TRY) You may have to remember to update it these programs yourself but these seem to work quite well and do not cause other problems with email. Commercial programs often can be set to update themselves at specified intervals such as daily or weekly. However you get your program updated you MUST do it regularly, at least once a week and maybe more often in these times. At the following web site you can have your computer checked for viruses while you wait: http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_pcc.asp http://security2.norton.com/ssc/home.asp?j=1&langid=us&venid=sym&plfid=22&pk j=YGTBBXUQIZQVMUYTACD (Click on Scan for Virus) There are many other web sites and sources of information out there. Be wise. Protect yourself. With thanks to Roger Jewett for this collection of information. 1. [ILMASON] 1920 Census & Immigrants
    2. Cheryl Rothwell
    3. If you have an immigrant ancestor living and in the 1920 census it may be a treasure trove for you. The 1920 census asks for the year of naturalization for all naturalized citizens, the birthplace of each parent [as do all censuses beginning in 1880] and, of course, the person's birthplace. It asks the person's native language, the language of the parents and whether the person now speaks English. It also asks the immigration year and the number of years in the US. It asks if you own or rent and if you own is the mortgage paid. And this is in addition to the regular census questions. Its first actual engagement was at Island No. 10. where, on the 8th of April, 1862, is forced the surrender of Gen. Mackall, with four thousand men. On the 24th of April, the brigade of Brig. Gen. John M. Palmer, composed of the Twenty-second, Twenty-seventh, Forty-second and Fifty-first Illinois, and Company C, First Illinois Artillery, was assigned to Brig. Gen. Paine's Division. This division was engaged in the battle of Farmington, and the seige of Corinth. At Mission Ridge, the regiment lost one-fifth of the men who went into the battle. At Kenesaw Mountain, it lost, in killed and wounded, 2 officers and 54 men. During the fighting around Atlanta, the regiment lost in killed and wounded, 7 officers, and 105 privates.
