Murphey b. abt 1815 in OH, d. 1870 in Mason Co., IL. I don't know the name of the cemetery. Hope someone can help me in my search for this Murphey family. I don't know if Thomas Murphey's wife was buried with him or not. Her name was Eliza Jane Stout Murphey and she died 1899 in Correctionville, Woodbury Co., Iowa while visiting a son who was a preacher in Correctionville. OH. Nancy's parents were Caleb Dewalt and Sarah _______?. Upon researching, I pssbly found that Caleb had brothers named Charles (Sally Shook), Henry (Catherine Fogle or Caroline Fogle), Samuel (Barbara Newhouse) and Daniel. This info is circumstantial right now. My mother found a letter-written by her aunt-with Amos Mcdaniel and Nancy Dewalt info on it. Amos was in the Civil War from 2/12/1862 to 2-20-1864, and m. Nancy 3/29/1864. The letter also gave Nancy's siblings of Issac d. 7/28/1900, Mary b. 1835 OH, Elizabeth b. 1840 OH, Charles b. 1838 OH and James b. 1849 Mason Co, IL. I hope I can get some help on this, and find some confirmation. What do you think, did this help you ? Becky

No details were learned excepting that he was accidentally shot and died at a hospital in California. Mr. Thomas was a former resident of the city and was a World War Veteran. Miss Stella Ora Griffin, daughter of John Griffin and grand-daughter of Jeff Griffin, died at the home of the latter in the south part of Mason City on Saturday, May 2, 1908, after a week's illness with pneumonia. Deceased was aged 18 years, 6 months and 25 days. Her mother died when Stella was only four years old and although she was tenderly cared for by her aunt, Mrs. Thomas Minner and other relatives and received the best of medical attention her life could not be spared. Funeral services were held in the Christian Church Monday afternoon, May 4, conducted by Elders J.W.Porter and J.M.Haughey. Interment was made in the Mason City cemetery.

She was born in Johnson County, MO. She married John S. Maness in Johnson Co. Feb. 18, 1879. John S. Maness died Dec. 5, 1914. Sarah L. Maness was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Mason City. My father Charles Arthur, called Art, was their oldest child. He was born in 1912 in Mason City, IL as were all his brothers. John, Lester, Thurman (called Bally), and Thomas.Thurman had a twin brother Herman who died in the flu epidemic in 1919 or 1920. I remember Uncle Charlie pretty well, we visited Mason City in the summer and always saw Charlie and Gert. Of course I was a child and have that kind of memory.
