I received the following email query: ...a form letter from Marion County Clerk and Recorder, Cliff Neudecker. The first line of that form states: "According to Illinois law, our birth, death and marriage records are closed to the public, however, member of any Illinois Genealogical Society may check indexes only to 1916." The lady wants a marriage record from 1907 or 1908. I really don't believe she has a firm date. However, I do not understand why she would not be allowed a copy should she know the date. Is she misunderstanding something or has Illinois law changed that much since I moved out of state? Cheryl Rothwell [email protected]
