I don't know much about Boise, ID., although all three were probably part of The Oregon Trail, if it was during an early time period. The Dalles, OR. is on the Columbia River and part of the route to Portland, Oregon City, and Fort Vancouver in WA. After statehood (what's that, 1859?) Salem was the capital of the state and in the middle of the Willamette Valley which was known for farming, Jason LEE and Willamette University. My HENSLEY connections were there involved in a mercantile business. In general many didn't come west until the train line(s) were put in (what's that, 1870's).
