I just noticed that you are related to the Payne's and Harpers. Guess what? James C. Payne and Mary A.E. Harper's son, James Albert, married my great aunt, Effie J. Allsup! She is the sister of my great grandmother, Lucy Ann Allsup who married Jesse J. Howell. Still don't think that is your Howell line, but, I might be wrong! haha..... Well, just thought I'd get in touch. I don't know if all this makes us related in any way or not <g> except maybe indirectly! But, I've got lots of info on Effie's side of the family if you're interested, and I also have info on the Harpers and the Paynes. By the way. Have you corresponded with Diane Payne?
