Issue: I. John McNICHOLS, born 17 Aug 1767 in County Cork, Ireland, died ???; married Martha _________. He brought his family to the United States in 1810, at which time he apparently changed his name to NICHOLS. Issue, 4 children: 1. Henry Michael NICHOLS, born 24 Apr 1788 in County Cork, Ireland, died 12 Apr 1863; married/1 - Mary (NICHOLS) HALLAM, born 19 Aug 1800 in Wilson Co., TN. She was the daughter of Elijah and Mary McNICHOLS/NICHOLS. Issue: (1) Martha Jane NICHOLS, born 15 Aug 1820 in Wilson Co., TN, died 4 Feb 1890 in Sowers, TX. Married 17 May 1825 in Marion Co., IL - Levin J. WRIGHT (son of Elijah and Mary WRIGHT), born 29 Sept 1809 in Warren Co., KY, died 21 Dec 1871 in Sowers, TX. They moved to Dallas Co., TX in 1858. Issue: a. Mahala Ann WRIGHT b. Alexander Barnes WRIGHT c. John L. WRIGHT d. James Denton GRAY, born 4 Dec 1812 in Wilson Co., TN, died in Marion Co., IL (A handwritten note in the book says that Mariah NICHOLS was born in Salem, IL). Issue: a. John Henry GRAY, born 14 Jan 1839 b. Joseph GRAY, born 7 Apr 1842 c. William Young GRAY, born 4 June 1844 d. Thomas Wilson GRAY, born 9 Nov 1846 e. Martha Agnes GRAY, born 11 June 1848, died young f. Hester GRAY, born 8 July 1853 g. Samuel Whiteside GRAY, born 3 Jan 1856 h. James GRAY, born 8 May 1858, died young i. Mary Eliza GRAY, born 7 Feb 1860 j. Mariah "Tena" GRAY, born 7 feb 1860 (3) Robert NICHOLS, born 16 Apr 1824 in Wilson Co., TN, died ???: married (wife's name not known). Issue: a. Jennie NICHOLS, born 12 Aug 1850 (4) William Henry NICHOLS, born 5 Mar 1827 in Marion Co., IL, died 11 May 1890; married/1 - 12 Feb 1849 Caroline DeFOREST, born 17 May 1834, died 18 Sept 1850. Issue: a. Robert Beecher NICHOLS, born 16 Apr 1850, died 4 Oct 1916; married Mahala Frances "Fannie" SMITH, born 21 Nov 1854, died ???. No issue, however, book says they raised Mattie PARKER. Married/2 - Matilda DUCKWORTH. Issue: b. James Henry NICHOLS, born 5 Jan 1858 in Jonesburg, Mo., died 21 Feb 1936 in Texas; married/1 Josie NANCE; no issue. Married/2 - Mrs. Lucy (GOFF) RUSHING; no issue. c. Arthur Franklin NICHOLS, born 4 Feb 1860, died young. d. Don Wright NICHOLS, born 31 Oct 1862 in Montgomery Co., MO, died 5 Nov 1949; married 10 Nov. 1887 Anna Ruth CUBBERLEY. Issue, 7 children. Married/3 - Pauline MARTIN. No issue. (5) Francis Marion "Frank" NICHOLS, born 5 Mar 1829 in Marion Co., IL, died 18 July 1903 in Marion Co., IL; married/1 - Mary POWELL, born 18 June 1832, died 14 June 1898. Issue: a. Robert NICHOLS, born 16 Apr 1852 b. Angie NICHOLS, born 20 Aug 1854 Married/2 - A. HAWKINS; no issue. Married/3 - Mary HAILS. Issue: c. Charles S. NICHOLS, born 23 Apr 1870.
