SOURCE: CENTRALIA SENTINEL - 15 FEB 1872 "Died, Mrs. Lucy BATES, wife of Gen. E. N. BATES, formerly of Centralia, on Feb 13 of typhoid fever at Springfield, Ill., aged 41 years. She was born at Williamstown, Mass., and was married there in Nov. 1855. Her husband and three sons survived. Mrs. James B. SANDERS of Centralia was a sister. She was buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield."
