I know this is not really genealogy related, but I couldn't resist passing this along. Seems the editors of the Salem Republican had a sense of humor. From the Aug.2, 1955 edition. It was not the headline, but it was on the front page. "OUTHOUSE DESTROYED BY FIRE YESTERDAY" There is one less outhouse within the Salem city limits today as the result of a fire yesterday. Salem firemen at 4:55 p.m. were called to the V. R. Middleton residence, 303 South Marshall street, where an outhouse was burning. Twenty-two firemen were on duty until 5:20 p.m. Fire Chief Paul Sweney Jr. said cause of the fire was spontaneous combustion of organic matter. The outhouse was a two-holer.
Hi Ron, to me it is genealogy. It is part of History. This is how I learn about the ancestors, i found where my Uncles were in a race and that they one. I printed it out for my one Uncle and told one of the children about it. Harriet laughed. And My Uncle would say I I remember that. He is now deceased but some of these things were from his time.
