I have Norton, which I run about once a week. Macs are usually immune to most viruses and this attachment virus is the first one that has caught me. I don't normally send virus warnings, in fact I spend a lot of time hoax-busting. However, it seemed important to warn other listmembers about the danger. The member who wrote to me off the list with personal information, had the virus and gave it to me, I'm sure, unintentionally. The line at the end of her email said "take a look at the attachment." Then I wrote back to ask what format the file was and the reply again had the sentence "take a look at the attachment." The first file was named news_doc.scr. The second one named SETUP.pif; I don't usually open attachments unless I know the person, but this "attachment" is VERY sneaky. After I opened the attachments -- which were gibberish -- my computer did several strange things, like refusing to print, stalling and freezing. A run of Norton seems to have cleared it up. However, since two or more of us have been infected, I still feel the list needs to be warned not to open either of these attachments. Thanks for all the good things you do for the list by offering your genealogy notes. Carolyn Remember you have a friend in Oklahoma!
