You sent info on my query about Thomas WILLIAMS, and your message ended abruptly with ..."take a look at the attachment." So I downloaded it but it was only gibberish. I wrote you back: In a message dated 4/24/01 7:31:44 PM, [email protected] writes: - - << Take a look to the attachment. >> - - Could not read this attachment. What format is it? - - Carolyn So it sounds as if the virus attaches the "take a look at the attachment" sentence on its own. Sure hope my virus software stopped it so I am not spreading the virus. How will we know? Carolyn Remember you have a friend in Oklahoma!

    3. Hi List, I got the message too....twice! My virus software told me it was corrupt and would not let me open it! Thank God! 3. NO VIRUSES came from the list. It is impossible for an attachment to go through the list servers. The server rejects all attachments, all non plain text messages and all messages from non subscribers. You may have had private email with a member of the list but you did not get a virus from the list. I strongly urge everyone to install a virus checker on your email and your general computer. There is a FREE virus checker available from http://www.grisoft.com . All my email has the following at the bottom: Incoming mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.249 / Virus Database: 122 - Release Date: 4/24/01 If it finds a virus it isolates it and sends me a message. You have to make sure to update it regularly but it is free. As a backup, I run Norton every night. Now, let's get back to genealogy. Cheryl Rothwell [email protected]

    3. I know one thing for sure. I will never open another attachment even if I know who it's from. The tech that came out to work on my computer said probably another innocent person had been caught like I was. He said not to open any. I learned an expensive lesson from this!I've just had the computer less than 2 years and would you believe it's the first time I've done that. I reallly thought the attachment was from a Co mailing list. Well, live and learn. Thanks for understanding.
